About Murray Long

A third generation primary producer in the Riverina area of NSW, Murray founded and managed "Pendarra" White Suffolk Stud to become one of the leading suppliers of terminal sire genetics to the prime lamb industry. With extensive involvement across many areas within the Australian Prime lamb industry, Murray's industry experience makes use of all available technology to achieve targeted genetic outcomes that are ideally suited to the specifications of lamb processors and consumers. As well as developing a high performance sheep stud, Murray also established a genetic marketing business, "Performance plus Genetics", which has been responsible for the distribution of many of the influential genetics within the Australian sheep industry. Having worked in the area of research with CSIRO for many years prior to returning to the family property, Murray's passion for research led to him conducting ground breaking feed efficiency trials across a wide range of genetic lines and selections resulting from these findings have had a major impact on the direction of the White Suffolk breed.Performance recording using Lambplan has always played a major role in development of genetics at "Pendarra" and with the recent development of DNA testing, his knowledge of this technology is also playing a major role in breeding decisions. Murray works closely with many sheep producers and schools in developing their breeding flocks and has authored a book on "Breeding Stud Sheep" which has been sold to all sheep producing countries and used in many schools as a reference book. A short publication on improving results from artificial breeding programs was also compiled for stud producers."Clear View Consultancy" was set up in 2013 and Murray provides assistance at all levels for both stud breeders and commercial primary producers to evaluate their businesses and make decisions based on the most up to date information and strategies within the agricultural sector.
