Provide leadership and support to expand and promote excellence in teaching and learning initiatives, and innovative curricular technology use across UTSA.Provide leadership and oversight for instructional design and quality user-friendly hybrid and fully online courses.Provide leadership for the implementation of innovative practices and models that may assist in an institutional transformation.Implement an innovation hub serving as an incubator for innovative ideas and proposals that could impact teaching and student learning.Provide leadership and support for personnel and services directly related to the Learning Management System.Work collaboratively with campus leadership to identify, define, and support development of teaching and learning programs, projects, and resources that improve student success and value the importance of curriculum innovation.

Online Learning

Responsible for managing the planning, development, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of learning technologies. Includes LMS and e-learning authoring tools.Plan data collection and analysis of key performance indicators developed in concert with the AVP and key staff.Organize and manage the Instructional Design and Development team and Blackboard Support team in an efficient manner so as to support continuous growth in the number of faculty and courses supported.Direct training, instructional design and support activities for faculty teaching web-enhanced hybrid and fully online courses. Established a self-paced teaching online academy, and revamped the Hybrid and Teaching Online Academy. Direct technical and administrative processes relating to the LMS (Blackboard Learn).Research new delivery schematics and technologies. Interact with faculty and staff across campus as an active participant in external and internal projects. Includes GRIP initiatives and strategic planning for World Class Graduate Programs.Assist in the development of white papers related to instruction and educational technologies developed cooperatively with other units.Periodically will oversee implementation of new LMS. Conduct annual performance appraisals of personnel and provide staff development to ensure skills upgrade and performance. Participate in annual budgeting process.Assist in the creation of an annual report.Assist in ensuring compliance with NC-SARA.

Online Learning

Provide leadership and support for personnel and services directly related to teaching and learning using a Learning Management System and associated technologies, including faculty training and support, instructional design and technical knowledge of the LMS.Plan and coordinate activities under the direction of the Associate Vice Provost and Director for Digital Learning. Responsible for managing the planning, development, delivery, implementation, and evaluation stages of learning technologies. Responsible for managing the unit, budget, and decision-making of key initiatives. Organize and operate the department in an efficient manner, to support continuous growth in the number of faculty and courses supported. Conduct annual performance appraisals of personnel and provide professional development opportunities to ensure advancement of performance, abilities, and skills. Provide direction to the unit to continually improve the quality of work, accessibility compliance, and competence in the design and development of online and hybrid courses. Direct technical and administrative processes relating to the LMS. Direct training, instructional design and support activities for faculty teaching web-enhance, hybrid and fully online courses. Interact with faculty and staff across campus as an active participant in external and internal projects. Plan data collection and analysis of key performance indicators to establish effective and efficient faculty development opportunities.

Online Learning

Lead teams and individuals in the design, development and production of electronic delivery methods.Collaborate and consult with faculty on instructional design issues and needs.Provide advice on the effective use of web-based resources, multimedia technologies and instructional software systems to improve teaching both online and on-campus.Project manager for special projects, lead student developers and support staff in the design and production of web pages and online courses.Oversee and perform development of curriculum guides for courses and/or program components. Design and supervise the production of learning resources in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support curriculum offerings.Consult with individual or groups of faculty on the optimal design of curriculum and instruction.Collaborate with faculty to implement unified course format and packaging to provide students with seamless and user-friendly online learning as they take different courses.Review courses prior to implementation; provides assistance as needed; prepares an evaluation of the materials and instructional plans, possibly indicating suggestions for improvement.Plan and oversee the implementation of faculty professional development programs relating to best practices in online teaching and other academic initiatives to support student success and completion.

Coordinate the Online Learning processes for course development.Collaborate with Faculty on design and development of blended and online courses using Instructional Design Models.Review online courses and assess them with the online cQual rubric.Coordinate Faculty Development processes. Design and Develop workshops about Instructional Technologies, Large Classrooms, Student Engagement, Instructor Presence and Collaborative Learning. Organize the Online Faculty Learning Community meetings at the University. Co-chair of the Innovations in Online Learning Conference 2011-Present.Research current technologies and good practices for Online and Blended courses.

Design and develop online and blended courses.Identify and collaborate with faculty and peers on instructional design issues.Consult with colleagues to determine appropriate media for support of instructional goals, based on best practices.Conduct research in instructional design and instructional technologies.Design and develop multimedia-based course materials utilizing instructional technologies.Collaborate in workshops and tutorials of instructional technology to assist faculty and peers.
