Mike Wendt was born and raised in Moline and graduated from Moline High School. Mike earned Bachelor degrees in Political Science, Philosophy and Public Administration from Drake University as well as Master degrees in Urban and Regional Planning as well as his M.B.A. from the University of Iowa. In 2005 Mike graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law and was admitted into the Illinois Bar Association in 2005 and Iowa Bar Association in 2006. While in school Mike did internships with Bi-State Regional Commission, Scott County Planning and Development, East Central Iowa Council of Governments and Johnson County Zoning Department. He also was a Teaching Assistant for Economics/Statistics in both Graduate and Law School. Between Graduate School and Law School Mike built cell phone networks for VoiceStream (now T-Mobile) in Chicago, St. Louis, and in Cleveland. He was in charge of planning and zoning for sites and worked with planning staffs, city councils and aldermen through the permitting process. Mike worked in private practice as an attorney from 2005 to 2008 focusing on real estate, construction, estate planning, elder and tax law, and business/contract law. He then joined Ruhl&Ruhl REALTORS as their in-house council. He has worked as a manager and general sales manager helping Ruhl grow to be the largest privately owned real estate company in Iowa. In 2015 Mike was elected Alderman for the City of Moline's 3rd Ward and served two terms (eight years). He as also been active in the community serving as a board member of Moline Rotary, Moline Soccer Club and is the liaison for the City council to the Moline Park Board.
