I mentored campus leaders on the development and implementation of campus-wide systems, policies, and professional learning plans, prescribed data protocols for monitoring student growth and informing instructional decision-making, coached campus instructional leaders to facilitate curriculum internalization and support pedagogical growth, and advised on funding sources and small grant writing for needs-based professional development at low-SES and at-risk schools and districts.

We opened and transitioned to a new 6A building, for which I planned, coordinated, and facilitated the new campus safety and security program, including student and staff training and procedures. I also redesigned and reimplemented the campus in-school suspension program with increased academic structure, individual student accountability, and restorative and reflective practices. As a campus instructional leader, I provided mentorship and support to my appraisees and many other staff members throughout the teacher evaluation process via informal and formal walkthroughs, timely and detailed feedback, pedagogical guidance and recommendations, formal observations, and conferences with opportunities for questions and discussion.

I developed and facilitated a variety of professional learning experiences and workshops, such as models of teaching and learning, research-based best practices for teacher clarity, disciplinary and content-area literacy practices, standards-based curriculum development, dynamic and learner-centered instructional planning, formal and informal assessment design, rubric development, approaches to actionable data analysis, collaborative structures, etc. I also provided individualized, needs-based training, coaching, and mentoring for early-career and veteran teachers in all aspects of professional teaching. I coached my teacher teams and professional learning community on deep-dive data analysis and longitudinal data triangulation to monitor student growth and services as well as to plan and revise multi-tieredinstruction.

I was part of a collaborative team with members from across the university that drafted grant proposals to develop and facilitate professional development programs for pre- and in-service teachers in high-demand areas (e.g., STEM and bilingual education) to fortify efforts across the state to support, empower, and retain educators. I was also a member of the evaluation team for the United Way of Greater Houston Education Initiative. I collected and analyzed multiple forms of data on the various components and activities of the initiative, including classroom observations, teacher and student surveys and interviews, and student achievement data, and I communicated findings and recommendations through preliminary and final executive reports as well as formal presentations. In preparation for the 2017 revision of the ELAR TEKS, I led a team of researchers to collect, analyze, and report on state-wide teacher feedback data on behalf of the Texas Council for Teachers of English Language Arts to be delivered to the Texas Education Agency. I also conducted and presented several empirical research studies related to teacher education and teacher effectiveness, career commitment, and self-efficacy.

I planned and taught undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses, including Intro to Culture, Community, Society, and Schools (undergraduate level intro class - addressing the cultural and social factors that impact education); Reading/Language Arts Instruction in Middle School and High School (graduate level for preservice teachers - ELAR standards, pedagogy, and assessment); and Data-Driven Decisioning in Schools and Classrooms (undergraduate course - student data analysis to inform instruction). I developed and updated the curricula and syllabi for these courses to meet the needs of my students and the field of education at the time that I taught each course.

I taught Planning and Instruction for Middle Grades Curriculum, which is an upper-level undergraduate course with a field experience component. My students were second-semester juniors who were working on their Math/Science (grades 4-8) teaching certificates. I facilitated the course via a hybrid model and the purpose was to prepare my teacher candidates to facilitate diverse approaches to instructional strategies that support all areas of student development (physical, cognitive, social, and emotional) and represent a variety of global and multicultural perspectives. I also supervised my students in their field placements, which involved regular observations in their host classrooms, open communication with their mentor teachers, and mid- and endpoint evaluations of their progress, including a recommendation for release to student teaching.

I conducted empirical qualitative and quantitative research related to pre- and in-service teacher education and its impact on teacher self-efficacy, pedagogical practice, educational technology integration, and career satisfaction as well as student outcomes. I collected and analyzed multi-modal data via repeated time-sampled and holistic classroom observations, cohort surveys, and interviews. I also assisted the evaluation team of community-based intervention programs for at-risk students and their families facilitated by United Way of Greater Houston and their partner member organizations of their education initiative.
