St. Vincent Medical Center, Operated by Variety Healthcare is a world-renowned transplant center. I was retained there, during the pre and post CAP expected the inspection. As part of the responsibility, I examined all policies and procedures made the recommendation to reevaluate them. Those unacceptable Proficiencies’ were examined and responses were made to meet compliances. Rebuild the total Quality control program in the automated area, using Bio-Rad Unity program. This has helped lab to meet laboratory in full compliance with peer group comparison.Surveyors pointed out laboratory’s phase I and Phase II deficiencies by the department and common deficiencies covering in all areas. This was responded by again modifying policies, procedures, doing in-service for the staff wherever it was applicable.

The Hospital with 190 beds, busy outpatients department, and several blood drawing facilities. The laboratory is very busy carries out 24/7 operation with staffing 45 personnel. As CAP inspection was expected, my responsibility to review, prepare laboratory for the inspection. Having absence of lab Director, Manager for over a year, took collaborative, cooperative help from staff to prepare the policies and procedures as well as keep all required documents. The inspection went through just fine, however, those deficiencies phase II were addressed and prepared documents and have been submitted to College of American Pathologists for their review to grant the accreditation for two years. Have conducted in-service, observed their morning operation have made the recommendation to make the process more efficient.
