I am a qualified pharmacist with a strong educational background from NWU Potchefstroom. During my internship at Netcare UCT Private Academic Hospital in 2021, I had the privilege of gaining hands-on experience in various crucial aspects of healthcare. This included active involvement in assisting with oncology mixing and aseptic procedures, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical practices. Additionally, I actively participated in ward rounds, contributing to patient care and honing my observational skills. Implementing Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) highlighted the significance of responsible medication use in preserving efficacy. Beyond technical skills, I embraced the importance of mindfulness in the healthcare sector, recognizing its pivotal role in preventing accidents and promoting patient safety. This holistic experience has profoundly shaped my approach to pharmaceutical practice.I completed my community service year as a registered pharmacist at uMlamli Hospital in a rural village in the Eastern Cape. In this role, I played a vital role in monitoring and dispensing TB medications to patients with MDR and XDR-TB. Taking charge of stock management and procurement further enhanced my skills, allowing me to contribute to the seamless functioning of the pharmacy. Additionally, I assumed responsibility for evaluating and dispensing patients' medicine-related needs, engaging in tasks such as dispensing, repackaging, preparation, and compounding of medicines or scheduled substances in strict adherence to authorized prescriptions. Recognizing the need for efficiency, I initiated the creation of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and successfully implemented them, ensuring a more effective work environment within the pharmacy. This experience has not only deepened my clinical expertise but has also instilled in me the importance of proactive management for optimal patient care.In 2023, I took a year off to explore diverse experiences, including working in a coffee shop and serving as a stewardess on a yacht in Europe and in South Africa. These experiences, while unconventional, provided valuable insights and helped me clarify my professional direction. The break reaffirmed my commitment to the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in quality management, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs. I approach my career with renewed enthusiasm, drawing upon the lessons learned during this transformative period.
