As the first person of our team in place I started up the new site of our laboratory at Karolinska Institutet. This includes diverse tasks like contacting the Swedish authorities and local regulatory units for the necessary licenses as well as feeling the ground for potential collaborations.I actively invest into the group's future growth by establishing new collaborations, e.g. with the Center for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (KIND). To achieve this, I mapped the local resources in my new work environment, as well as used and actively expanded my preexisting contact network which led to new joint projects and grant applications. With one of these applications I recently contributed to securing a 500 000 SEK research grant in less than 4 months time from project planning start. The Strategic Research program in Cancer (StratCan-KICancer) serves as an umbrella organization for all cancer research at KI.I support the work and the leadership of StratCan-KICancer by- managing calls for grants- organizing and facilitating meetings and workshops- representing StratCan through the KI website, news e-mail and social media channels

To investigate the applicability of the laboratory’s previous findings in an Alzheimer’s disease model I sought out, acquired and set up new methods which led to the production of 4 new cellular disease models. I contributed to several successful large funding applications which secured continued funding for the laboratory. In addition, I secured independant funding from renown Swedish funding agencies, e.g. the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA) to present my research at renown international neuroscience conferences. Furthermore, I assumed additional economic and organizational responsibilities leading to a smoother workflow and increased laboratory safety.Main techniques used: - CRISPR/Cas9 - Cell culture of primary cells and cell lines

I discovered and described a new cell population in a brain structure influencing mood, reward feelings and movement. It is a highly relevant therapeutic target in Parkinson's disease, where e.g. depression is a common symptom.The scientific projects I led produced several high-ranking scientific publications. Following up on those, I expanded the projects into new directions producing high-quality unpublished results which were part of new funding applications and thereby ensured continued funding for the laboratory.I also represented the laboratory at several international conferences, where I actively worked for anexpansion of my scientific network. The conference participations were supported by the Swedish Parkinson Foundation, Parkinsonfonden, among others.Main techniques used: - Behavioral analysis, incl. advanced surgery and optogenetics - Histology and Imaging - Molecular biology techniques for RNA, DNA and protein measurement - Adobe software suit for scientific illustrations
