As BloombergTV’s Africa producer I was responsible for the channel’s African news diary and all coverage in Sub-Saharan Africa. In this role I worked with correspondents across the EMEA region. I was part of the team who conceptualised and produced BloombergTV’s first African show, Africa Amplified. I also produced daily live broadcasts from the Johannesburg studio for the Daybreak: Middle East and Africa show. I booked and managed all African guests, managed field productions, edited TV clips, created graphics, conducted research, prepared guest notes and assisted with other general desk tasks on the EMEA team.

I contribute national news stories for Scrolla Africa - a low data, mobile, free news platform aimed at South African communities who can't access news behind paywalls or on paid TV channels.I used to contribute feature articles to New Frame, a not-for-profit, social justice media publication based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Due to funding problems it was unfortunately shut down in 2022. I'm exploring opportunities to write for more news publications.

My research uncovered the specific military unit Mike Horn fought in for apartheid South Africa during the Namibian Border War. Through multiple interviews I also uncovered the true story of how Mike Horn lost his finger, something that has never been revealed before. I traced his fellow soldiers who were interviewed for the documentary aired on RTS. I also uncovered how he spent his student years at the University of Stellenbosch and traced his old housemates from that time for on-camera interviews. I was tasked with conducting the South African historical research into South African-born Swiss adventurer Mike Horn's past of which very little was known before.

I was responsible for growing Netwerk24’s audience with a personal focus on optimizing multimedia (video) content for multiple mobile platforms. I founded and managed Netwerk24’s Instagram account and I was in charge of the publication's Facebook and Twitter accounts. I ensured that video content was tailored for mobile viewers on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Since I suggested publishing videos natively to Facebook and guided multimedia journalists’ to take a different approach to editing for mobile audiences in October 2015, Netwerk24’s Facebook video channel has gained 1, 065 492 views in under 8 months.

I produced a pilot daily online news and current affairs show aimed at reaching mobile audiences: #topstories on Netwerk24 (http://www.netwerk24.com/).I produced #topstories from start to finish: from compiling a news diary to directing the edit to publishing different versions of the videos to Netwerk24 and its social platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). After #topstories ended its experimental run I continued to produce multimedia stories and had the opportunity to shoot and edit in the field again.

I was responsible for the overall health of the content strategy for Mercedes-Benz South Africa's online and print publications. My focus was on the online magazine mblife.co.za with an emphasis on multimedia (video) content development but I also contributed to the bi-annual Mercedes-Benz magazine. I developed high quality video content with a wide online reach through social channels. On a day-to-day basis I planned and managed content calendars, managed freelance content producers and the editorial production team, and analysed monthly reports to adjust the content strategy accordingly. Throughout mblife.co.za site’s redesign, I liaised daily with web designers and developers to ensure an intuitive, user-friendly, quality content platform. To meet client expectations I liaised with clients daily and attended relevant product launches and marketing events such as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks in Africa.

After being promoted to deputy editor, I continued managing, planning, commissioning and producing content for lifestyle platform mblife.co.za and Mercedes-Benz magazine. My responsibilities increased and included overseeing the production of an interactive digital PDF guide for Mercedes-Benz Customer Service Intelligence, and assisting the editor on the production and publication of Unleashed: A Graphic Novel released at the 2014 Johannesburg International Motor Show, as well as Silver Slipstreams: a branded video production which achieved viral status (+- 345 00 views on YouTube).

My first full-time position entailed production of multimedia (video) stories for Media24 magazines' and newspapers' online, tablet and mobile applications. I also assisted in training and facilitating Media24’s Huisgenoot, YOU and DRUM magazine journalists to create and publish their own multimedia stories. During this time I produced an award-winning online mini documentary on school leavers’ holiday adventures which achieved local viral status (+- 240 000 views on Youtube).
