As well as continuing with my previous responsibilities as IT Engineer at Goodridge, I am also now responsible for UK and European IT. My role as IT Manager covers the following:- Responsible for UK / Europe IT and communication systems within the business, ensuring all systems are maintained correctly and available to support the business processes at all times.- I participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle ensuring all aspects of the architecture are managed consistently and effectively; are secure, scalable and extensible; and aligned with the strategic vision.- I manage a team of two, as well as assist with their development needs and ongoing training.- Accountable for the strategic direction for IT systems and maintain the systems roadmap for the company, responsible for the provision of appropriate policies to support the business.- Ensure an effective Disaster Recovery and Contingency plans is developed, maintained and testing on a regular schedule across all aspects of the IT systems throughout our European facilities.- Responsible for the provision of an effective support team ensuring the appropriate industry standards (ITIL) are adhered to.- Identify projects and develop plans for new systems and processes to ensure the best use of technology and the business progresses.- Have overall responsibility for the UK IT budget.

The organisation is an IT company based in the South West, that provides a full range of flexible IT solutions to businesses and schools; from reliable day to day computer support, through to strategic planning for multi-sited networks. Each supported site comprises of different operating systems including Windows 2003/2008 Servers, SBS 2003/2008/2011 and also workstation operating systems such as Windows XP, Vista, 7. All of this is dependent on the needs of each business. My job role requires me to determine the exact nature of problems (1st to 2nd line support) relating to the customers networks and IT. This is either done remotely on or site, dependent on the nature of the problem. My job role also requires me to prepare/migrate/install new server and network solutions both for new clients and existing clients. In summary, my role can be described as follows:• Setting and meeting deadlines, planning and developing methods for computerising a range of business tasks.• Providing support of IT hardware, software and networks. • Trouble shooting, administration and support of Windows Server 2003/2008 and SBS 2003/2008/2011 and MS Exchange on Dell/HP hardware at all levels.• First, second and line support.• Optimum trouble shooting and problem solving abilities developed.• Managing backup systems which include BDR (Backup and Disaster Recovery) servers, tape and external drive based backups using NT backup and Backup Exec.• Ensuring that contracted workstations and server have sufficient anti-virus protection using Vipre and NOD32.• Renewing certificates both public and private, dealing with external mail filtering, mainly managed by Microsoft Frontbridge.• Setting up and supporting Firewalls such as; SonicWall and Cisco Pix.• Managing remote solutions including RWW, RDP and VPN tunnelling.• Troubleshooting Shoretel phone systems (VoIP phones).

My role consisted of providing technical support on a helpdesk environment via email and inbound/outbound calls to business, residential, corporate and reseller customers and escalating to 3rd line support when necessary, my role consisted of;• Router/modem configuration• ADSL/SDSL connectivity• FTP connectivity• POP3/IMAP Email accounts,• DNS troubleshooting and configuration• Logging and progressing faults within Service Level Agreements• Client/server configuration for Microsoft Exchange 2003• General support of Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS• Wireless setup and configuration
