Research Scientist I Brain Tumor Research
Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the Georgia Institute of Technology is a leading research university committed to improving the human condition through advanced science and technology. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬In September 2012, I joined Georgia Institute of Technology as a Research Scientist I for a project that involved finding novel nanocarrier therapy to treat brain tumors. The project was funded by Childrens’ Healthcare of Atlanta and GA Tech Brain Tumor Research funds. The results were published in Molecular Therapy Oncolytics.During my tenure in this position, I led and conducted the entire life cycle of the project including management of techniques, protocol design, troubleshooting and data interpretation. Within the documentation parameters, I recorded, compiled and analyzed complex results using charts, graphs, and presentations. As the senior leader and project manager, I supervised teams of scientists and graduate students within the laboratory setting through effective and clear communications of all policies and procedures. Research Associate | Laboratory & Data Management | Viral Protein Research
Emory University is a top-ranked private institution recognized internationally for its outstanding liberal arts colleges, graduate and professional schools, including the School of Medicine. It is one of the world's leading healthcare systems and has on an average $572 million in research funding.▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ As a Research Associate at Emory University, I planned, designed and conducted the majority of the experiments and protocols in a viral super-antigen project. This particular project involved the overexpressing and purifying of a potential superantigen protein originally from a murine gamma herpes virus in a mammalian system. Subsequently, the purified protein was then used in vitro and in animals to check for its superantigen properties. I managed the full scope of the research operations including the monitoring of laboratory processes, studying the biological mechanisms, as well as optimization, troubleshooting, and quality control measures. I was also responsible for recording, analyzing, interpreting and presenting the final results. I also mentored students and postdoctoral fellows in the pursuit of desired results of the project. Results ⇨ purification and collection of large amounts of protein for conducting in vitro and in vivo testing, which, through the processes and procedures of the project, showed that the protein worked based on our hypothesis as a super antigen. The technologies used in our efforts were optimized and can be reproduced/used by other researchers.Connect with me for more information.
Research Scientist I & Instructor | Bacterial Destruction Of Radionuclides
In 2008, I joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Research Scientist I. In this role, I collaborated with a team of scientific researchers on a project involving the destruction of radio-nuclide using marine bacteria. In pursuit of excellence in scientific processes and procedures, including data collection and enhanced delivery of results, I worked directly with the team to ensure completion of the research project.During my tenure with the university, I also served as the Interim Instructor for the Fall 2009 “Introduction to Microbiology” course. In this role, I developed course lectures, designed and maintained the course syllabus, created study materials, and provided personalized mentoring for students under my tutelage.
Research Associate | Microbial Pathogenesis Of Biofilm Forming Bacteria
The Center for Genomic Sciences (CGS) is a comprehensive and flexible research facility designed to investigate a broad range of medically and surgically relevant problems using cutting-edge molecular genetics and bioinformatics techniques▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬In 2004, I joined the Center for Genomic Sciences as a Research Associate. In this role I conceived, designed and implemented projects to study pathogenesis of clinical strains of biofilm bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Haemophilus influenzae. In addition, I constructed mutant strains and transcriptional regulation strains in challenging pathogens, study the significance of various genes in pathogenesis and biofilm formation using animal studies, histology, FISH and biofilm studies.I also used protein purification techniques and Western blotting to investigate differences in the translation of proteins in S. pneumoniae wild type and mutant strains. In a project management and leadership capacity, I led research projects, worked diligently to ensure accuracy, completeness, and verifiability of results, and effectively managed people, processes, and timelines to ensure seamless execution. I also trained and supervised research fellows, graduate students, medical students and technicians on Microbiology and Molecular Biology techniques.
