Research Software Engineer

Current

Didcot, England, United Kingdom

* As an RSE at the UK’s national synchrotron, I worked initially with theTomography software team in the Data Analysis group, developing newsoftware for beamline scientists to use for high-throughput tomography.* Developed a tool for fast beamline data transfer from one file system to another and deployed it using Kubernetes.* Improved the CI/CD pipelines for DIALS, an open-source software for Macromolecular Crystallography.

Oct 2022 - Present

Compiler Developer

* Worked full-time with the compiler team at GSI Technology (US office) on developing LPython, an ahead-of-time fast Python compiler, built using the Abstract Semantic Representation (ASR) technology on top of LLVM, with a strong focus on numerical code.* I worked hard on all aspects of the compiler to bring it from a prototype to production, including contributing to the parser, the semantic analyzer, the intermediate representations, the backends, and the runtime library. * Helped the team design, improve, and as a result, simplify the ASR intermediate representation (the most important layer where high-level optimizations are done), and to do that implemented all the changes in both the frontends (LPython & LFortran), as well as the backends (LLVM, C, C++, etc).LPython (lpython.org/) is much faster than the state-of-the-art. All contributions are on GitHub.
