Nance Ackerman has been telling visual stories around the world for over 35 years. Her work has also been featured in Time, Newsweek, Canadian Geographic, New York Times, and the Globe and Mail. Her photographs of First Nations women have been exhibited at the Aperture Foundation in New York and are in the permanent collection at the McCord museum in Montreal. She has also freelanced for the Smithsonian Institution, documenting Indigenous cultures and continues to travel with her new photo workshop company - www.cousinsphototours.com. In 2005 Ackerman turned her eye to directing film with the acclaimed NFB documentary, Cottonland, bringing in numerous awards and three Gemini Nominations. Her award winning film, Four Feet Up, that took an intimate look at child poverty in Canada, was shown on Parliament Hill and across the country to raise awareness. Her other titles include: Fid, Little Thunder and The Anniversary ProjectShe and partner, Jamie Alcorn, have recently moved their studio, Heartstring Productions, out to the seaside just outside Halifax. There they offer film and music production services. Ackerman is continuing to develop and direct independent films and web projects, but also works as a Commercial Director and Editor in between projects.
