I am currently overseeing the multiple laboratory departments at one of the hospitals within the Finger Lakes Health System.

Erie County Medical Center

I am in charge of the Laboratory Department that facilitates all incoming specimens from within the hospital and the off-site clinics, as well as the specimens required to be sent for reference testing to outside laboratories. I am responsible for building the interface for hundreds of tests sent out to our facility's reference laboratory. I have daily interaction with physicians, nurses and the phlebotomy staff. I work alongside the Pathology department to help ensure expeditious turn around of specimen results. I work closely with the Finance Department to ensure proper usage of billing codes in order to remain CMS compliant. I have worked on special projects with a variety of departments in regards to building a new outpatient ambulatory center and new on-site clinics. I work closely with our Detox and Behavioral Health physicians and counselors, as well as our facility's point of care coordinator. I have also implemented the Six Sigma philosophy throughout the department. I am also responsible for department scheduling and time cards.

Buffalo/Niagara, New York Area

Worked up bacterial, Mycology, Parasitology and TB cultures. This included set up, identification and susceptibility testing. Responsible for preparing specialty media, as well as ordering and stocking commercial media. Also responsible for quality control of stock organisms, media and drug susceptibilities. Responsible for yearly statistics. Trained new employees as well as the college and Pathology interns doing their clinical rotations at our facility. Worked on various studies and projects presented at the yearly American Society of Microbiologists conference.
