A Publishing Career Specializing in Medicine and The Business of MedicineNancy Collins (McSherry) trained as a biological illustrator but chose not to pursue the MA degree in medical illustration at Johns Hopkins once she learned about the medical publishing industry and the career path to acquisition editor. She began her publishing career as an educational sales representative for Appleton-Century-Crofts (Division of Prentice-Hall) in the Northeast Territory in 1980. After several years in the field she became the National Sales Manager at ACC and then an Acquiring Editor.Moving to Baltimore in 1985, she joined the Williams & Wilkins book editorial team, acquiring books in Psychiatry and the sub-specialties of Internal Medicine. Ms. Collins was recruited to the journal division of W&W in 1987 as Director of Marketing. From 1990 to 1998 she was VicePresident & Publisher, heading up the Proprietary Unit, a $19M department of periodicals, newsletters and CME products.After playing a role on the management team that helped with the sale and transition of W&W by Wolters Kluwer, she left the merged company, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, in 1998, to launch Greenbranch Publishing,Ms. Collins subsequently acquired the company's flagship publication, The Journal of Medical Practice Management, and built the media company specializing in the business of medical practice, compliance, patient safety and physician career issues.Nancy Collins is a graduate of Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and holds a BA in Pre-Med and Fine Arts, and a minor in History.
