I’m a veteran journalist who is passionate about creative storytelling that informs and educates the community. As an editor and reporter, I specialize in investigative journalism that holds public and private officials accountable and sheds light on people whose stories would otherwise remain in the shadows. • I was recognized as The Fresno Bee’s top line editor and edited most of its recent in-depth and enterprise projects, including “Living in Misery” (the impacts of substandard housing and why it continues in Fresno), “Slaves of the Sex Trade” (human trafficking), “Locked in Terror” (Fresno County Jail’s failure to provide proper mental health care for inmates and the fatal consequences) and “In Denial” (the secret world of undocumented immigrants). Each of these projects was recognized with statewide and/or McClatchy journalism awards. My final project with The Bee was “Broken Bodies, Broken Hearts,” examining the widespread community problem of domestic violence. • As a website manager for The Bee, I coordinated and published online content and used social media to promote it.• I gave in-depth assistance to student writers who come to The Bee with little or no writing and reporting experience, teaching them on all aspects of reporting and writing from the basics of AP style through the importance of accuracy as it relates to credibility. I strive for excellence and encourage others on my team to do the same. I’m looking for opportunities to be creatively challenged and inspired, to continue to learn something new every day, and to use my communications skills to help others.In addition to writing, my creative outlets include singing with the Fresno Community Chorus Master Chorale and Coro Piccolo. We are scheduled to travel to Poland in 2019 on a singing tour, which combines two of my greatest passions – travel and music!
