Community health nurse and epidemiologist with 40 years of experience in global health. Currently Professor Emerita and Distinguished University Professor in the School of Nursing, University of Ottawa. Completed an eight-year term as Scientific Director, Institute of Population and Public Health, Canadian Institutes of Health Research in July, 2016. Inaugural Director of the Population Health PhD Program (University of Ottawa). My clinical and research interests are in the fields of public and population health, with a focus on the design and evaluation of complex multi-level and multi-strategy community health programs in Canada and internationally. Research foci have included fall prevention for seniors, HIV/AIDS, and maternal and child health.I have served on various boards and advisory committees. Currently I am a board member for Family Councils of Ontario, and C.A.R.P.'s (formerly Canadian Association of Retired Persons) Ottawa Chapter. I am an advisory committee member for the National Institutes of Health Research Schools for Public Health Research (England), and TRUUD (Tackling Root Causes Upstream of Unhealthy Urban Development) (Universisty of Bristol); and a voting member of the Standing Committee for Building Codes, Housing and Small Buildings, National Research Council.
