Nancy Hawkes Email and Phone Number
My True North is conservation of wildlife and wild places. Working with wildlife throughout my career has been a tremendous privilege. Committed to providing animals their very best life, whether they live in human care or in nature, my work has been grounded in the continuous improvement of animal care strategies and in connecting people to wildlife and wild places. I'm most passionate about inspiring awe of the natural world through experiential learning, writing, speaking and teaching. As an experienced director of diverse departments, large budgets and complex operations, I understand the details, the challenges and the opportunities in providing care for the animals with whom we share our planet. Starting out as a reproductive biologist and working at four accredited zoological parks across the country, I have developed and led conservation breeding and species recovery programs for many endangered and threatened species. I have co-developed techniques and tools that have measurably improved animal welfare on an international level. In this stage of my career, I want to share the lessons I have learned and give the next generation of zoos, parks and conservation organizations the knowledge and tools to thrive, to continuously improve and to have a meaningful impact on conservation.Including:Developing operational tools for ensuring animal and staff wellnessDeveloping and implementing organizational strategic plansDeveloping and delivering educational programsTeaching formal and informal science education (K-12, college, graduate levels, volunteers and the public)Mentoring graduate studentsReviewing and editing scientific journals Writing and reviewing grant proposalsMentoring emerging leaders to develop a servant leadership approach to inspire staff collaboration and creativitySpecialties: Writing & Editing | Teaching | Research | Strategic planning | Continuous improvement | Budget creation & management | Staff development and mentoring | Regulatory compliance | Grant-writing |Donor cultivation and fundraising l Large and small group presentations
