We made Carbon Brake discs for Commercial and Military aircraft. The fiber was laid up and cut into discs. Then it was infused with carbon molecules under pressure while being baked in three story furnaces. I set up and operated Mills and Lathes to cut the Discs to size. Tolerances ranged from +/-.010 at first machining to +/-.001 at final machining. This was a fast-paced, moderately precision, six sigma lean work environment.

I arranged for the hauling, housing and redistribution of Industrial products into and out of Spokane, WA. Among my customers were Kaiser Aluminum, Tech Cominco, Monsanto and many others. I arranged transport into our warehouses and registered identifying serial numbers with my customers. Upon my reporting the load's arrival, my customers sent me a list of whom on their list of customers were waiting to receive their product's. I then coordinated receiving dates with their customers and arranged shipping to them. Length of storage in our facilities ranged from 2 hours to 2 yrs. Skills gained in this fast paced customer service environment include - Coordinating Business to Business supply needs, Arranging over the road transport with our own and independent shipping companies.Meticulous Record Keeping using Microsoft's Excel and Access plus the software developed for our owner Jim Ewers.Providing documentation of correct handling and transport of legally sensitive materials. Presenting Powerpoint presentations in small meetings to customers of my customers when they needed the system explained.My biggest coup? - I turned All my customers from using outside, independent transport systems to exclusively using our own IEDS Shipping for all their over the road needs.

This was basically a purchasing position. There were 5 ferries in the fleet at the time and 12 onboard engineers plus the Engineering Manager. I ordered onboard engineering supplies, from light bulbs to engine parts. I procured these from local sources like Pacific Plumbing and Grainger's will call desk and from sources as far away as Norway from the companies that Marinized our Ferry Engines.I got the chance to empty and then organize our Stores Room. There were 400-550 different items we kept on hand at any given time. Items were loosely grouped in sections but beyond that just sort of heaped up. My manager allowed me to find a barcoding software package I liked and then to present my case to him, the CFO and the CEO. I choose Intellitrak, presented and won my case.I then emptied the Stores, tagged and organized each item based on frequency of usage and accessibility and refilled the Stores.I would come in mornings to find barcode stickers in a neat row on the edge of my desk. I kept inventory by scanning those into the software. And everything the engineers took from Stores when they got back shoreside was accounted for and my inventory updated. We never ran out of our stored items again.
