About Nancy Barr, Phd, Nremt

I've spent most of the last two decades helping scientists and engineers communicate their ideas ethically to a variety of audiences using a range of modes and methods. I've taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses, provided workshops to faculty, and developed curricula at the undergraduate level. In recent years, my focus has shifted to program assessment and curriculum development at the undergraduate level. I'm especially interested in helping faculty, and companies develop effective learning objectives and assessment tools for their courses with an eye toward improving retention and student engagement, especially among students typically underrepresented in STEM fields. My current non-academic passion is working as an Emergency Medical First Responder. I'm the kind of person who is not satisfied to be a bystander. I want to help!On the "fun" side of writing, Arbutus Press published the "Page One" mystery trilogy and I write the occasional short story. The most recent, "Peace," took the runner-up Judges' Choice prize in the 2019 Write Michigan contest.Specialties: STEM communication, instruction, inclusive teaching practices, communication workshops, and facilitation.
