Nancy Cardenas is a Patient Care Specialist at Skinny Gene Project, dedicated to building strong connections with individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes and helping them enroll and attend the diabetes prevention program. at Skinny Gene Project. Colleagues describe her as "As the Intake Specialist for Skinny Gene Project, she is the first line of contact with all incoming individuals seeking support with lifestyle change. Nancy is extremely skilled in interpersonal communication. She demonstrates the following skills on a daily basis; empathy, calmness, assertiveness, and problem solving. Nancy conducts all eligibility/readiness for change screenings and enrollment for the National Diabetes Prevention Program with SGP. She is skilled in member intakes, class coordination, class preparation, and intern assistant trainings. She not only oversees incoming direct referrals from a wide range of health partners, but oversees a team that creates health awareness campaigns to over 1,000 individuals. Her Coordination Center Calling Team provides the opportunity for members in the community to know of the NDPP and learn more about lifestyle change. My favorite story that she shares with our team is that she regularly has members that are enrolled in the program still call her to check-in and discuss how their day went. Her positive energy and desire to help others shows through her work and in the lives of the members in the program."
