Inaugurated a new beat within the Miami Herald: Entrepreneurship, startups and local tech companies. Covered breaking news and trends in the South Florida entrepreneurial community, and wrote regular features such as Startup Spotlight, Tech Talk and Q&As. Was among the Miami Herald's most active and followed reporters on Twitter (@ndahlberg) and always exceeded Herald page view goals.

Creator and host of the Starting Gate blog on MiamiHerald.com. Saw a need for Miami startup coverage and founded the blog to provide a place for South Florida startup news, events, resources for entrepreneurs, tech community news and viewpoints - the go-to site for all things startup in Miami. Ran the Miami Herald Business Plan Challenge, a popular annual early-stage entrepreneurship contest launched in 1999. Selected judges, handled promotion, managed judging for 3 tracks, managed the video contest, wrote winner profiles, coordinated 2 special sections, and produced an annual, free Bootcamp for the community and a Challenge Winners Luncheon. We attracted over 200 entries every year.

Edited Business Monday magazine, launched new features and worked with staff reporters, freelance writers and columnists. Role included writing about startups.

Took a buyout from full-time editing to pursue writing full time. Projects and roles included:* Coordinated and wrote Small Business Makeovers and Resume Makeovers for The Miami Herald, and ran annual Business Plan Challenge. Helped produce Miami Herald Small Business Forum. * Wrote and coordinated the quarterly magazine for Mounts Botanical Garden, Aug. 2009-July 2011. * Contributing editor / Latin Trade magazine. Writer for Bankrate.com, the University of Miami alumni magazine, and Herald business sections.

Oversaw an award-winning 40-52 page weekly tab section on local business/economy. Supervised 3 reporters (insurance, retail, economy), an editor and columnists. Ran reader-involvement projects such as Business Plan Challenge and small business makeovers. Wrote a weekly column. Oversaw an award-winning 2007 collection of cover stories on problems in the local economy.

Supervised 4-5 business reporters with insurance, retail, economy, cruise/marine and banking beats; directed special projects, such as an award-winning cost of living series, a roundtable on the Florida home and commercial insurance crisis, and an award-winning series on the insurance crisis.

Edited and packaged World/Latin coverage during a busy period for global news. Worked with staff and foreign correspondents.

Edited Sunday Business (10-14 broadsheet pages); supervised reporters and edited projects. Launched personal-finance features such as money makeovers, a money q&a, a column and a stock picking game. Helped organize popular and profitable all-day personal finance-focused programs where we brought in national speakers and panelists. Hundreds attended.

Oversaw production of business sections (daily, Sunday, Business Monday, Drive, Computing) and supervised copy desk. Directed redesign of sections and overhaul of market report, which included focus groups and surveys. Supervised 5 editors and 2 editorial assistants.
