For the past 20 years I've worked in the Commercial Lending/Real Estate Department at Frost Brown Todd. I currently support 6 attorneys on my desk. I have also done overflow work in the evenings as well as on weekends assisting attorneys in other areas of practice, i.e., Labor Litigation, Corporate, Environmental, Personal Planning and Family Business Law, etc.

Most of the work I did for Mr. Zalla was related to residential real estate work. Mr. Zalla represented what was then known as Kentucky Enterprise Bank with regard to all of their residential loan closings. My work in this particular area touched on several aspects of the closing process. I prepared all of the loan documents, deeds, mortgages, title policies and commitments, obtained payoffs on existing mortgage loans, cut checks for the closing and overall set everything up so that once Mr. Zalla came back with the information needed for a clean/clear title, we could close the deal. I recall one week in particular where Mr. Zalla was out of the office on vacation and I handled 23 closing that week on my own.

I began working at Dinsmore & Shohl in their file room. I was a single mother at the time (my baby was 10 days old) and I needed to find something better suited for caring for a child rather than restaurant work. A gentleman by the name of Earl Spaulding hired me through a local temp service. Within 6 weeks they bought out my contract. I loved working at Dinsmore and moved up quickly. I started as a file clerk, was trained to run the switchboard, honed my typing skills and learned how to repair the electronic data modules on all of the equipment on our copiers (known then as "Danyl": units). At the time I left the firm, I was working as an Administrative Assistant - assisting the Director of Marketing, the Paralegal Director, the Systems Director, the Librarian, as well as an Associate and Paralegal in the medical malpractice litigation department. I find that what you get out of a job depends on what you are willing to put into that job.
