My editorial career has been extensive and varied. I’m freelance now but started with about 12 years working full-time as part of corporate in-house publication groups, later transitioning into contract work and freelance work. Then I followed the path to an MSLIS and work in academic libraries, continuing to do freelance editing and proofreading, including substantial work in K-12 educational publishing. Library Publishing Coalition

The Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) is a non-profit membership association of academic and research libraries and consortia engaged in library publishing. I provide program and administrative support, including event planning for the annual conference (200–220 attendees), communications (blog postings, emails), membership support, updates to the website (WordPress), research, and editing/proofreading. I have edited and managed production of the print version of the Library Publishing Directory since 2020. I copyedited the research agenda and competencies documents below.

Boston College Libraries

• Managed day-to-day operations for OJS journal publishing platform supporting 15 active journals; provided training and troubleshooting support; worked with new journals to ensure accurate setup and compliance with copyright/licensing guidelines. Developed a reference guide and planning document for journal managers.• ETD administrator for submissions of graduate dissertations and theses to ProQuest database; consulted and communicated with students and department contacts to answer questions and solve technical problems; led workshops for students.• Created and reviewed metadata for materials to be submitted to institutional repository; ingested MODS records and materials.• Contributed to Digital Scholarship projects.• Provided assistance to library patrons at reference desk; volunteered for “personal librarian” program for freshman; wrote feature articles for internal staff newsletter.

Boston College Social Work Library

• Coordinated course reserve materials for approximately 80 courses each academic year (includes creating course reserve lists, ensuring compliance with copyright guidelines, cataloging electronic resources, purchasing necessary items), ensuring timely availability to students.• Responsible for library operation evenings and Sundays; hired, supervised, and trained student workers.• Provided reference services evenings and Sundays; provided instruction to new/offsite students.• Assisted faculty with course management software (WebCT/Blackboard Vista/Canvas); participated in pilot upgrades to the university’s learning management systems; tested new library resource management software.
