  • The Peale
Chief Strategy Officer And Founding Director
The Peale Feb 2017 - Present
225 Holliday Street, Baltimore, Md 21202
As founding Executive Director, with Board support I led the completion of the $5.5 million USD capital campaign to restore the historic Peale building – the first purpose-built museum in the U.S. – and relaunch it as Baltimore's Community Museum and a laboratory for cultural innovation. I have also grown The Peale's revenue streams and operating income from $0 in 2017 to over $1 million per year with a staff of 10 plus fellows and apprentices in the "Accomplished Arts Apprentices" workforce development program. The Peale is both a teaching museum and a place where anyone can contribute their story to the city’s cultural and historical narrative. Together with creators and storytellers of all kinds, we’re actively redefining the role of museums in society and building the largest archive of Baltimore stories in the world. With Baltimore’s communities, we co-create ground-breaking exhibitions, performances, and programs, and are pioneering new models for accessibility, relevance, and sustainability in the cultural sector.A core activity at the Peale is rethinking systems and structures that perpetuate inequity and injustice in society and our organization. As a result, the Peale adopted a shared leadership model in September 2020, and Nancy assumed the title of Chief Strategy Officer, responsible for strategic planning, partnerships, and developing new business development opportunities to ensure the financial security of the organization as well as fund its initiatives.
