I love to automate complex, human labor intensive tasks to deliver faster results at scale.Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death around the world. At the Shadden Lab, UC Berkeley, we are interested in a simulation based understanding of heart disease. A major bottleneck in this effort is the several hours of expert human labor required to produce computer models from biomedical images of cardiac structures. By leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning methods, we are able to automate this process and produce simulation ready, patient specific models of the human heart from medical images at scale. Our workflow accelerates the traditional pipeline from several hours/days to a matter of minutes.I am also interested in applying reinforcement learning to discrete decision problems in applied mathematics. Along with Prof. Per-Olof Persson, I developed a reinforcement learning agent that optimizes the connectivity of triangular & quadrilateral meshes. Our methods set a benchmark for such problems and are particularly promising for 3D applications.
