I believe that our communities should improve the health and happiness of all inhabitants. Our built environment can provide equitable access to resources, employ biophilic design, use materials that fit within a circular economy, and operate in balance with the local ecosystem. As a consultant with Buro Happold, I work with real estate developers, corporations, and architects to implement design and operations strategies that support their business values and improve the health of occupants and the planet.The mountains are my home. I grew up in southwest Colorado, spent 11 years in Montana enjoying big sky country, and now live in Reno, NV with the Sierras and Lake Tahoe in my backyard. It's important to me that we develop the built environment with respect each other and the natural world.Professionally, I’ve worn many different hats including nonprofit board president, architect, and now consultant. Currently I guide the development of healthy, equitable, regenerative, zero carbon buildings and neighborhoods, and leverage biophilic design to align the built environment with the natural world. I have helped design a full Living Building Challenge project and shepherded multiple LEED Platinum certifications. Key projects include The Brando, a carbon-neutral, net-zero water, eco-resort in French Polynesia, as well as leading an integrated design approach focused on eco-diplomacy for international embassy projects with the US Department of State. I have provided expert guidance for other high-profile clients like Hertz, citizenM, Expedia, and Amazon. I’m Living Future Accredited and have led an interactive, biophilic design workshop at Greenbuild. I thrive when achieving ambitious performance targets from ambiguous origins.Away from my desk, I’m in my element whenever outside in nature. Preferably while also moving quickly on skis, bikes, or on the water. But life is all about balance. So, I do slow down for a round of golf or float on a SUP, and I am usually the one holding up the group to stop and take pictures or pick the wild raspberries on the trail.
