About Natalia Lutti Hummel

Bachelor in Environmental Engineering from SENAC University Center (Brazil) and Master in Climate Studies from Wageningen University (Netherlands). Also, from 2018 until 2022 Natalia has been a fellow in the Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) for the development of the Values Assessment. Since 2023, Natalia is also a Author Leader in the Business and Biodiversity Assessment of IPBES.Professionally, Natalia has been working as project manager and researcher in the Center for Sustainability Studies in FGV (FGVces) since 2010, with a brief pause for her Master in Netherlands during 2011 to 2013. In FGVces, Natalia more recently has been responsible for the development and application of the sociocultural valuation methods to assess damages from the Fundão dam disruption in Rio Doce. Natalia has been leading the Trends in Ecosystem Services (TESE) initiative since 2015, which aims to support business management of ecosystem services. In partnership with the TEEB Regional Local project, TeSE developed the Business Guidelines for Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services and its calculation tool, as well as Business Guidelines for Reporting Environmental Externalities. Natalia also coordinates workshops and working groups with business representatives with the objective of training in ecosystem services management, addressing issues such as valuation of ecosystem services, risk management, payments for environmental services (PES), among others. In addition, Natalia assisted the application of the guidelines and tools in 40 business case valuation of ecosystem services. Since 2010, Natalia has been a researcher in the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program and the Companies for the Climate Platform (EPC), contributing to the simulation of the Emissions Trading System and, mainly, to the adaptation line to climate change, developing tools, pilot projects and publications in the subject matter.
