It was produced by myself and four Macquarie University law students in partnership with Restless Development and SODCC. Our primary objective was to assess the prevalence of gender based violence in schools within the Parsa District. We conducted fieldwork research by interviewing local stakeholders and visiting schools to conduct surveys, key informant interviews and focus group discussions. Finally, we utilised this data to provide Restless Development and SODCC staff with a set of recommendations which addresses the weaknesses and limitations of the current mechanisms designed to combat GBV. It was an eye opening experience. One that time and again challenged my world view and will power to overcome adversity. This was made much easier to do with the support of my team mates and Nepali volunteers, who I’ll always be grateful to for their kindness, consideration and good humour during all the hard times. I conducted my research not only at Macquarie using the small archive on the sculptures but also in the AGNSW… Show more As part of a Modern History PACE unit at Macquarie University, I produced a research report "Sculptures Outside a Framework" for the Macquarie University Art Gallery.The aim of my project was to establish a collection of oral history recordings that would reflect the history of the Sculpture Park at Macquarie University, as seen through the eyes of its ever-changing residents. I conducted my research not only at Macquarie using the small archive on the sculptures but also in the AGNSW archive. Moreover, I recorded a selection of oral histories through an interview process. This project required me to engage with the archives, informants and then thinking about the outputs. An aspect of this project I found most intriguing was that Macquarie University became a model for other sculpture parks to develop within a university environment. Macquarie University has always had ideas about different elements to do with how to express aesthetic. Its founders wanted it to be different and through this difference, to reflect a new vision of the world. This innovative thinking was derived from the 60’s when the University was founded. Furthermore, the sculpture park has been promoted as the character and identity of the University. Its entire environment is devoted to an ideal, which of course is that of learning for most Universities. At Macquarie, however, this ideal is also about the individual. Not just about learning, but also about a broader socialisation and growth. In this way what the sculpture park stands for is innovative, outside the box thinking. Show less
