I collaborated with a tattoo studio to develop and write blog content and artist profiles for their business website. I also edited an article for a health center fitness coordinator to be published in the company’s holiday newsletter.

I created, updated, and maintained content for 3+ website domains (FaveSouthernRecipes.com, AllFreeCasseroleRecipes.com, AllFreeSlowCookerRecipes.com, and more) using the company’s content management system and WordPress.To promote website content, I strategically scheduled social media posts across social channels including Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Google+.To track performance of the website content, I created weekly and monthly reports using Google Analytics and the Advanced Web Ranking tool. I also made informed decisions based on this research to create monthly editorial content plans.

I organized the book department (~1,600 volumes) at Twice As Nice Consignments by categorizing books into 19 unique genres/topics including literary fiction, thriller, science fiction, romance, biography/memoir, and more.I also streamlined the department by eliminating books that surpassed the time limit to be displayed, while retaining particular books based on their projected popularity.Once the initial project was completed, I maintained the order of department to increase its selling potential and integrated new books into the established genre system.

The Pretzel City Shop is a small business that fosters pride in the small town of Freeport, IL: Home of the Freeport Pretzels.I independently operated the Pretzel City Shop. Daily operations included addressing customer questions and requests regarding merchandise, managing daily sales transactions, and operating the cash register.Since this business promotes tourism in Freeport, I provided information to interested customers about local events and businesses, as well as some history about our unusual mascot (a pretzel).I also compiled monthly sales reports, maintained inventory quantities, and suggested reorders to the owner.

Urbana-Champaign, Illinois Area

Montage is an undergraduate arts journal that publishes the prose, poetry, art, and drama, of students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.Alongside my fellow editorial assistants, I evaluated and debated the strengths and weaknesses of student prose submissions. After discussing each prose piece we held a vote to determine their potential for publication. I was able to use the knowledge about style and narrative structure I learned in my Intro to Narrative Writing course (CW 104) to evaluate the quality of student submissions.I also volunteered at the Montage booth for Pygmalion Literary Festival.

The official publication of the University of Illinois Alumni Association. I was responsible for the the Class Notes section of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign alumni magazine's Spring issue. The Class Notes section updated readers on the career/personal achievements of fellow alumni using concise language.I wrote 50+ entries for the Class Notes section based on my research in the Alumni Association's database as well as the Editor's email correspondence with alumni.I fact-checked and proofread articles and advertisements for the Managing Editor. I also peer-edited my fellow Editorial Intern's Class Notes for accuracy and formatting.

As a sales associate, I helped put out new clothing merchandise and other assorted home goods. I also helped maintain general order and organization throughout the store, and was also responsible for cleaning duties including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, etc.I also answered customer questions on inventory as well as price-checking on clothing and household items. I assisted in check-out by folding and bagging customer purchases. I also assisted in displaying clothing merchandise and dressing mannequins to increase sales.

As a Walk-in English Tutor in HCC's Success Center, I provided about 20 students per week with constructive feedback on papers discussing a variety of subjects including English, history, and psychology. More specifically, I suggested solutions to organizational and structural problems in student papers. I also facilitated individual brainstorming sessions with students to foster creativity and encourage interest in a topic. I identified grammatical errors and explained solutions to students of varying skill levels.
