Reporting to the CEO, leading cultural and economic development; planning, building, and health services; and strategy and advocacy including:*Developing integrated, long-term strategies to guide the physical, economic, social, environmental and cultural development of Hobsons Bay, including the Planning Scheme, Municipal Public Health Plan and Council Plan.*Creating and promoting opportunities for local residents and visitors to participate in and experience the cultural realm of the city.*Engaging with the city's business, tourism, and industry sectors, and promoting economic development principles across the Council.*Assessing planning permit applications and planning scheme amendments to achieve quality development that maintains the city's character.*Contributing to public health and safety through building, environmental health and the provision of waste management services.*Adopting sustainability, environmental engagement and climate change adaptation and mitigation.*Advocating on behalf of the community and reporting on local government performance.

Functionally responsible for providing the Council and community with an integrated strategic policy focus on social, environmental, natural, built form and land use issues, trends and service needs.

Western Melbourne

The Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action (WAGA) is a partnership of eight councils to the west of Melbourne. Its members are the Cities of Brimbank, Greater Geelong, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham, and the Shire of Moorabool. WAGA councils work collaboratively to respond to climate change across the region and encourage their communities – residents and businesses – to make a transition to a low carbon society. WAGA’s plans and projects focus on both mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to the impacts of climate change.
