After returning from overseas, I had a desire to stay in the legal industry but wanted to do something completely different. Not knowing what that different role would be, when I heard about the opportunity to work for a legal software company, where I could use all my knowledge and skills from being a legal secretary and learn more about information technology and train staff, I knew I wanted this job.This role gave me the opportunity to really push myself out of my comfort zone and learn a completely new set of skills. I thoroughly enjoyed this role - learning more about information technology, learning training techniques and helping lawyers and their staff become more productive by using this software.I did not realise at the time, this would set the path for me to eventually be able to run my own business in the same industry with the same great product!

My role at CMS Cameron McKenna was secretary to one partner and three fee earners. This role allowed me to utilise my knowledge from my previous legal experience and enjoy a working holiday in the UK.I gained more experience from my role here and working in different departments to what I had in Australia.

I had always aspired to enter the legal world and I didn't hesitate in applying for the role of junior legal assistant at Mullins Lawyers in August 1999.I started my role at Mullins Lawyers in the property department working for one of the junior solicitors.During my almost eight years at Mullins Lawyers I was privileged to work in a variety of different departments and for many people, including Property, Business, Sports, Planning & Environment and finally finishing in Commercial Litigation and Insolvency. This gave me an appreciation for all the different kinds of law there are and I gained so much knowledge from being exposed to working in these different departments with different people.The highlight of my career at Mullins Lawyers was working for two partners, one being the managing partner.I left Mullins Lawyers to travel and work in the UK on a working holiday visa.

Being the receptionist Hirn Newey DFK, I was the first point of contact clients and business associates had with the organisation. I took a lot of pride in this responsibility and always ensured I answered the phone with a smiling face as they say you can hear a person smiling.Greeting clients and answering the phone was just one aspect of this role. I also typed outgoing communication and forms and was responsible for preparing the daily mail.
