Children First Uganda is a volunteer-led charity in the UK providing funding and expertise to support CALM Africa, a Ugandan NGO. CALM Africa is a community-based organisation that practically advocates the promotion, observance and protection of the rights of vulnerable children in Uganda, through delivering educational facilities and community outreach work.As one of the Directors of the charity, I am responsible for the co-leadership and management of our operations and activities. I liaise with CALM Africa on a regular basis to support their work and influence their organisation in its sustainable development; I have visited the organisation three times, so far, on a volunteer placement to work with them personally. My individual responsibilities in the charity include online and offline marketing & communications, running and assisting fundraising activities and supporting fundraising projects. In 2012, I co-organised a charity ball for over 100 people in Leeds, UK. I also project managed the fundraising campaign for building a well in the community. This endeavour is entirely voluntary and I conduct this work in spare time around my full-time occupation.
  • Entropii (Previously Zabisco)
    Experience Design Consultant
Entropii (Previously Zabisco) Feb 2012 - Feb 2014

My focus of work was on the research and IA aspects of design projects. My responsibilities involved conducting user-centred research and desk-based client research, to generate user insights. From initial user research, I ensured the information and insights gathered were filtered through the design process, using tools such as personas, user journeys and wireframes. I also conducted user testing, with experience of carrying out usability assessments on desktop and mobile. I worked on a range of projects including digital, services and branding with experience cross-sector.From an internship beginning in August 2010, I began a part time position starting in February 2011, alongside working towards my PhD, which progressed to a full time position in January 2012.
  • Loughborough University
Doctoral Researcher, User-Centred Design Research Group
    Loughborough University Jul 2009 - Feb 2014
    Loughborough
"User-centred design of the service to install renewable heating technology in the UK social housing sector." My PhD research applied user-centred methods to better understand social housing landlords' and tenants' experiences of ground source or air source heat pumps, to identify any means of improving the installation service. These findings were sought with a view to encourage uptake and impact the efficiency of use of ground source and air source heat pumps. As an additional interest of the research, the thesis considers the application of user-centred design within this context of service delivery and in the social housing sector.
  • Loughborough University
    Researcher
    Loughborough University Jul 2009 - Sep 2012
    Loughborough
My PhD was affiliated with a national research project funded by E.ON & EPSRC: "Carbon, Control and Comfort". This sustainability and user-centred research project aimed to assist social housing tenants reduce their energy use, whilst remaining comfortable in the home, through interventions. In my role as a doctoral researcher within the project team, I was co-researcher for the CCC project. This role involved designing qualitative research studies, conducting field research in tenants' homes and thematic analysis of data. The user-centred research methods applied in this project were contextual interviews, audio tours and cultural probes. My core responsibilities were the initial exploratory user research studies to identify and understand user behaviour and contextual issues, which contributed to my thesis, and the user evaluation of the designed interventions.

Working in the European Headquarters for Healthcare, I was an employee in the Environmental, Health & Safety Department. During my time there, I conducted Ergonomic Job Analyses, Risk Assessments, Noise Assessments, COSHH Assessments and Industrial Hygiene Monitoring.
