Program Manager
• Managed a nine person staff and consultant team to design and implement CA’s Department of Toxic Substances Control’s (DTSC) first environmental justice brownfield cleanup and reuse grant • $130 million of grant funds awarded in two years to assess, clean-up, and repurpose contaminated land across the state of California, targeting low-income communities facing heavy environmental burdens • Co-managed with DTSC leadership the writing of the grant application, guidelines, and scoring criteria for two rounds of funding including collaborating with environmental justice advocates, prospective applicants, awardees, and other community stakeholders • Co-wrote stronger guideline & scoring standards for equitable development, community engagement, and community benefits with DTSC staff and UC Berkeley’s Othering & Belonging Institute • Developed and managed the communications and outreach strategy including messaging, webinar and email series, grant educational materials, online and in-person public feedback events, and facilitated over 100 targets meetings across the state • Coordinated technical assistance team and designed technical assistance program resulting in over 180 one-on-one technical assistance sessions for prospective applicants with a 97% applicant success rate in Round 1• Led a workshop to connect pro-bono grant writing and environmental consultants services with under-resourced cities, non-profits, and tribes to support ECRG Round 2 grant applications and create long term partnerships
