About Natasha Brown (Ross)

I grew up in the sleepy town of Dornoch in the Highlands – a place world famous for its championship golf course. I was terrible at golf but continued to attend coaching for several years; mainly for the burger and chips we’d get at the clubhouse afterwards. I was also part of the girl’s football, hockey and basketball teams growing up, but I think like most small schools, they didn’t have much to choose from! Luckily, I did much better academically. At the time Dornoch Academy was known for its good grades and it was almost ingrained that you’d end up going to University – I didn’t even think about any other paths. In 5th year I took Business Management as a crash Higher subject simply because the teacher was good crack. Coupled with enjoying French & German, I decided Business Management with French would be my calling. I was going to be a businesswoman in France or some sort of translator. By the end of 5th year I had itchy feet and was ready to head to the city. I got my Highers and followed some friends down to Aberdeen at the tender age of 16 to begin studying at Aberdeen University. Le monde était mon huître! Or so I thought. I went to Uni too young, was completely overwhelmed by the 300+ student lecture halls and the leap in French was way beyond what I imagined. I stuck it out for the first year but made the jump over to RGU to start afresh. Best decision I ever made. After my industry placement at AGCC via RGU, I was eager to get more experience before my last year of Uni and ended up with a summer internship at ETPM. Going back for my last year of Uni was a bit of a juggle with a new part time job at ETPM, a dissertation to write and a new love interest. Luckily it all worked out…I’m still with the ETPM crowd over a decade later, achieved a first class honours degree and the love interest became a husband 5 years later! As I got older the itchy feet that took me away from Dornoch started pulling me back. We bought a 'do-er upper' cottage in Nov 2018 to have a holiday home/holiday rental as a bit of an investment. 6 months into the renovations we found out we were unexpectedly expecting twins. This didn’t scupper our DIY plans too drastically and ‘Carnegie Cottage’ is now a roaring success. Now, in between being a referee to toddler twin boys, working 3 days a week with OMG, managing the holiday cottage, more house renovations and finding time to see friends/husband…I have joined a running group for a bit of me time. In summary, I’m not one to do anything half-arsed.That's my essay, interested to hear a shorter version of yours...

As the Monica Geller of the office, I soon found myself in a more group wide role. Towards the end of 2017 I was responsible for helping kick off our DP (dynamic positioning) division within Pirie & Smith (P&S) in terms of creating processes, managing contractors, booking travel and navigating the wonderful world of visas for DP Trial & Reactivation projects in West Africa and the Middle East. Once the division was operating like a well-oiled machine, I handed over the reigns to a colleague and moved onto my next ‘assignment’. Underwater Contracting (UCO) - a new company to the group - was my next port of call. As an aquaculture industry focused venture, UCO was completely different to our usual services but with the experience from Pirie & Smith and ETPM, I was able to help put in the administrative processes and paperwork for helping UCO appear much more professional than we were behind the scenes! In winter 2018 management decided we needed a new quality management system for ETPM. ‘Complimented’ as being the most anal and process driven employee, I was coerced into implementing the new system. I found it immensely boring to start with but once I got to grips with the software and requirements of ISO, it became marginally less boring. ETPM became ISO 9001:2015 certified in August 2019 and UCO and Pirie & Smith followed suit in October 2021. Now, my role as Operations Lead is wonderfully diverse and described below in a nutshell: - Being part of the Ocean Marine Group Management Team- Managing ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System – approving suppliers, conducting internal audits, preparing management reviews, implementing and improving processes. - Onboarding of new Employees - Supporting Team Leads and Employees with HR matters- Liaising with finance team for payroll matters - Providing project and administration support for ETPM, UCO and Pirie & Smith Operations
  • Etpm Ltd
    Subsea/Project Recruitment Team Lead
    Etpm Ltd Dec 2013 - Jul 2017
    Aberdeen, United Kingdom
After a short stint offshore, etpm welcomed me back with open arms. Initially I helped with a new onshore recruitment division but was chucked in at the deep end once again just a few months later. This time I was promoted to the Team Lead of the subsea department, managing a team of 6 Recruiters and Administrators at the tender age of 23. It was a demanding job but the team we built up was full of characters so every day was as sociable as it was productive. Some of my key accountabilities were as follows: - Offshore crewing/recruitment- Full management of Client accounts;- Ensured the team were well managed and allocated to the appropriate tasks; - Provided mentoring and coaching; - Established and negotiated terms and conditions with clients;- Produced sharp and direct input into the QA System and confirms adherence and improvement -- - Engaged with candidates, contractors clients and provide support all;- Worked with and challenged the board to enable growth, higher industry awareness and innovation. It was during this time I really got my title for being the 'organiser' and general 'go-to' person in the office if anyone didn't know how to use the database or what the process was for certain visas...or how to order water for the water cooler! Hence, when the opportunity arose to leave recruitment, I moved across into more of a company wide operations type role.
  • Subsea 7
Offshore Worksite Admin - Dsv Seven Osprey
    Subsea 7 Jun 2013 - Dec 2013
    Aberdeen, United Kingdom
As a Subsea Recruiter with etpm, I learnt a lot about the positions I was recruiting for but nothing would beat seeing these people in action. I was particularly interested in the saturation diving element and luckily landed a job as a Worksite Administrator on a DSV in the North Sea. Having a partner who also worked offshore made it unsustainable from a personal perspective and I toddled back to etpm after just a few trips offshore. I was very grateful for the insight though and would do it again in a heart beat...as a one off trip! The Seven Osprey provided Dive Support services to the the DSVi collective of companies, comprising Chevron, Nexen, Talisman, Dana, HESS and Taqa. As Vessel Admin, my responsibilities included:- Collation of all relevant information, generation and distribution of the vessel Daily Progress Report- Working with onshore crewing dept to co-ordinate regular crew changes and project related mobilisations of personnel - Taking minutes at meetings held onboard and issuing as required- Assisting the Captain with maintaining customs and port administration - Updating and issuing onboard shift rotas for project and marine personnel- Co-ordinating on and off going personnel during helicopter activities when required- Maintaining monthly timesheets and TAX sector spreedsheets for the crew- Maintaining training matrix for regular crew and ensure certification on file is up to date- Updating and distributing POB/NOK details and Muster Station/Crew Lists- Registering of all arriving/departing crew and management of vessel cabin allocations- Assisting with general project and marine related paperwork
  • Etpm Ltd
    Subsea Recruitment Supervisor
    Etpm Ltd Jun 2012 - Jun 2013
    Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom
After around a year as Subsea Recruiter, I was promoted to Supervisor under the Subsea Team Lead. I was to become the 'go-to' for the rest of the team having built up knowledge of the industry and etpm's processes. Whilst supervising the team, I continued recruiting more senior offshore positions. Some of my key accountabilities were as follows: - Support recruitment team in all aspects;- Build rapport and relationships with client base;- Liaise with clients in terms of their requirements, establish commercial terms and conditions;- Source suitable candidates via database and available job boards; - Format CV's to etpm format ready for submission to client;- Ensure database is populated with up to date information;- Ensure contractors time and working patterns are entered correctly in to database and liaise with payroll on any queries;- Compile and issue contractual documentation to contractors and third parties; - Liaise with third parties in relation to contractual terms and conditions and any queries; - Work closely with payroll and invoicing to ensure smooth running of these departments;- Take part in company on-call rota system
  • Etpm Ltd
    Subsea Recruiter
    Etpm Ltd Jul 2011 - Jun 2012
    Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom
Moving into the world of offshore recruitment was where the tough work really began. Learning the industry lingo, job roles, offshore certification, travel and visa requirements, weekends oncall...the list could go on. In such a fast paced industry I had to learn fast. As part of a team, we each specialised in different positions for a multitude of clients. To start with I focused on rigging teams and equipment technicians, building relationships and trust with the contractors. Some of my key accountabilities were as follows: - Build rapport and relationships with client base;- Establish and understand the key requirements to requisitions; - Establish commercials attached to requisitions; - Source suitable candidates via database and available job boards; - Format CV's to etpm format ready for submission to client;- Keep candidates up to date with progress of requisition; - Keep database and back up files up to date with updated candidate information and documentation;- Ensure accurate information in relation to contractual terms and conditions is entered into database;- Compile and issue contractual documentation to contractors and third parties; - Take part in company on-call rota system
  • Etpm Ltd
    Summer Internship
    Etpm Ltd May 2011 - Jul 2011
    Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom
After finishing up my placement, I stumbled around various sites looking for a summer internship to build up my experience even further. That's when I came across etpm's advert for a 'Summer Star'. I applied and was asked to come and meet with the Recruitment Leads. Rather oddly, the owner of the company asked me what type of egg I would be as part of his interrogation...I can't remember my answer but whatever I did/said worked and I got the job. After a couple of months of general admin duties and uploading thousands of CV's onto a database, I was chucked in at the deep end of subsea recruiting.
  • Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber Of Commerce
    Marketing & Events Assistant
Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber Of Commerce May 2010 - May 2011
    Aberdeen
As part of my 4 year degree at RGU, year 3 was a paid placement out in the big bad world. It wasn't a case of just being assigned to a company - as students, we had to prepare our CV, write cover letters specific to every application and attend multiple interviews. This in itself was invaluable. I applied for a few different placements mainly focusing around marketing and finance which I was interested in at the time. I was delighted to be selected by the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce as their Marketing & Events Assistant for the year. In all honestly I didn't really understand what they did but I thought it sounded important! As Marketing and Events Assistant, I primarily worked as part of the membership and events team within the Chamber and was responsible for assisting in the creation of marketing materials, website editing and the organisation of the Chamber's event portfolio. After a great year and handing the title over to the next RGU student, I went looking for another summer job before Uni began again in September.
  • Visitscotland
    Tourist Advisor
    Visitscotland May 2008 - Sep 2009
    Dornoch
In order to fund myself through Uni, I found a day job to go alongside my evening/weekend job whilst at home for the 2008 and 2009 summer breaks. During this time I worked at the Tourist Information Centre in my hometown of Dornoch assisting tourists in booking transport, attractions and accommodation...and more frequently, helping them find their way to the beach.
  • Trentham Hotel
    Dishwasher / Waitress / Chef
    Trentham Hotel May 2003 - Sep 2007
    Dornoch, Scotland, United Kingdom
I landed this after school/weekend job after a panicked call from my big cousin one Friday evening. The restaurant she worked at were short staffed and with dishes piling up, I went in to help for the 'evening'. I quickly learned the ropes of waitressing and helping prepare meals, resulting in the backfilling of positions with my school friends which made it feel less like work. Four years later I moved to Aberdeen for University but continued to work at the restaurant during my summer holidays at home.
