Nate Barnson joined the commercial real estate industry in June of 2005 at Western Capital Realty Advisors. In June of 2017, Western Capital was acquired by Northmarq Capital and Nate was retained as a vice-president, and in January 2020 Barnson was made a Managing Director of the Salt Lake City office. With over 20 years of commercial real estate experience, Nate has financed various projects from nearly all commercial real estate asset classes including: office buildings, medical office buildings, grocery anchored retail, unanchored retail, industrial, apartments, acquisition and development of land, condo conversions, hospitality, mini-storage, student housing, and other special purpose properties. He works with diverse capital sources and has originated, underwritten and closed over $4 Billion of construction, permanent and bridge financing with various lenders including: banks, insurance companies, CMBS, credit unions, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, private capital, as well as some equity sources. Nate is very focused on maintaining a borrower advocate attitude in his work. He prides himself on finding the very best deal for his clients, whether it is with one of his preferred correspondent lenders, or with another source of capital best suited to meet the borrower’s needs. Nate earned dual Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Utah in Economics and Spanish, and has an MBA from Westminster College. He is also a licensed real estate agent in the state of Utah. Prior to joining Western Capital, Nate spent 2 years working for a private developer re-mediating and developing brown-field real estate and 1 year as a co-founder of The Utah East Africa Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which built an AIDS relief clinic in Uganda, Africa. Nate enjoys outdoor activities, golf, skiing, and spending time with his wife and his five children.
