Beginning fall 2022, I was pursuing my M.S. degree in ecology at the University of Georgia with a focus on forest ecology and ecophysiology in the context of global climate change, and I defended my thesis in May 2024. This experience provided training and practice in collaboration, time management, professional engagement, field data collection, statistical analysis using R, and organizational skills. During my second year as a grad student, I worked in UGA's Center for Applied Isotope Studies with Dr. Alexandra Heri, a geochemist who analyzes client samples for strontium (Sr) and lead (Pb) isotopes. In my first year at UGA, I was a teaching assistant for introductory ecology labs and spent much of my time conducting my own research at the Mohan lab’s experimental soil warming site in a Piedmont forest of north-central Georgia, conducting plant surveys and trait measurements. I then presented my research at our annual Graduate Student Symposium (GSS) last February (2024). I have also spent time learning to analyze spatial data in ArcGIS Pro and manage ecological measurement data in R software. My passion for field botany began and was fostered by my undergraduate research projects at Salisbury University. During the last year of earning my B.S. in Biology at SU, I worked with Dr. Richard Wilkens to conduct ecological surveys of the Maryland Coastal Plain and presented a poster on my research at the 2022 Salisbury University Student Research Conference. This work granted me experience in collecting and analyzing ecological measurements in diverse habitats, focusing on northern range bald cypress-sphagnum bogs and coastal oak-pine forests.With my passion for field work, I would also consider myself a tech-savvy and innovative individual. After having taken a year of bioinformatics classes in undergraduate, which focused on using R software for genomics research, I have since taught myself to plot spatial data using databases, produce various statistical plots and models, and how to use ArcGIS Pro to work even more effectively. I have the skills to make functions in R and am very good at organizing large datasets, and I am always looking to further my skills. Getting to both improve myself as a scientist and contribute to collaborative research efforts would be an ideal opportunity with which to begin my career.
