    During my five plus years working for the forestry department I have taken their GIS to a level that takes full advantage of the benefits GIS has to offer. A GIS that once consisted of scattered shapefiles now consists of topologically corrected geodatabases. I have also trained staff members in the use of ESRI products to a level that now requires little assistance. Staff have custom tools for common tasks that I have written using ArcObjects and Python scripting. The main part of my job has been the development and implementation of forest inventory and research projects. I wrote custom ArcPad data entry forms for PDA data collectors. Two of the projects, totaling 17,000 acres, were carried out by private contracts which I administered. I helped design and implement a research and inventory of the aspen covertype which looked at potential aspen conversion sights. The data gathered from the projects were entered into the geodatabases using custom scripts I created using Model Builder, Python and ArcObjects. All of the forest inventory and research projects have been successful meeting their objectives. I am frequently called upon to create maps, charts or tables for various projects which often require some sort of GIS analysis. Along with my GIS duties, I wrote and was awarded a grant for $125,000 to restore mixed hardwood/conifer forests.
