HMS (NASDAQ: HMSY) is a leading technology and solutions provider for healthcare firms (acquired by Gainwell Technologies in 2020). In 2020 I transitioned to manage a larger 14-member distributed team within the CTO’s Technology & Analytics organization responsible for identifying anomalies within large sets of medical claims data from 30+ HMS clients, serving as steward for multiple systems (10 servers, 120 total processors, 2.5 TB total RAM, ~100 TB storage) and guiding teams on projects (teams remote during Covid). While in this role I have cross-trained staff across different product lines to increase versatility and improve our ability to react to spikes in demand.Project highlights:♦ Drove automation efforts for ETL processes, manual validations, and ticket submissions using SQL stored procedures and SQL jobs. ♦ Consolidated three disparate ticketing systems into a single Kanban board to improve work prioritization, provide visibility, and enable team members to maintain a structured view of workloads. Established a Wiki-based system to document and organize team processes in a centralized location. Improvements led to ~25% gain in performance productivity MoM and ~50% productivity increase YoY. ♦ Managed technical debt reduction efforts and refactoring of copy/pasted legacy code. Partnered with developers to optimize the 10 poorest performing queries for a production run that led to ~50% reduction in runtime. ♦ Led build out of a SQL code framework to centralize a core process across disparate client databases.

In this role I led a team of Software Developers responsible for full-stack development of a suite of applications for clinical audit of medical claims data, utilizing C#, XAML/WPF front-end hosted in Citrix, WCF web services, and SQL Server backend. I led both new development projects and enhancements to existing applications, and liaised to internal business and IT leaders for project scoping, analysis, and decision making.During my time in this role I earned the Leadership Excellence Circle award and received the highest possible scores in employee engagement surveys for three consecutive years. Project highlights:♦ Led a major overhaul of the core medical review application, including performance improvements and a key feature that eliminated hundreds of hours of future development effort. The changes are projected to increase review by $20MM in 2021.♦ Drove build of an application that features point and click querying against dynamic data to enable users to identify large batches of improperly billed claims. The product is projected to drive $3MM in commission revenue.♦ Guided team in design and development of a new app to replace a legacy app flagged during a SOX audit due to improper user authorization and data integrity checks. (expected $700k annual cost savings)♦ Contributed as development leader during multiple datacenter migrations during move of the app-stack (database/app servers, Citrix-hosted UI, etc.) to new server farm and domain.♦ Successfully advocated leadership for improved resources and gained buy-in for MSDN for the team to maintain access to current versions of Microsoft tools. ♦ Pushed leadership for additional training resources and led initiative to acquire PluralSight on-demand training, now adopted by four internal IT orgs. ♦ Transitioned team to Azure DevOps from TFS and SVN.

I was initially hired to develop and maintain a suite of applications for medical claim fraud audit, and later assumed a lead role to mentor and guide junior developers and ensure delivery of clean and testable code with automated deployments.My day to day work included building:♦ Citrix hosted Windows applications (WPF/XAML, MVVM). ♦ Middle-tier WCF services connected to MS SQL Server (Entity Framework, Linq-to-SQL, Dapper)♦ Business logic in T-SQL stored procedures.♦ An encryption solution between client and server that enabled clearance of a critical audit.♦ Scripts to automate build processes and reduce deployment error.Our successes included:♦ Reduced application errors by 70% through code cleanup and improved error trapping.♦ Improved part of a key application’s performance by 50% by reducing redundant code which caused excessive round-trips between tiers.♦ Improved handling of third party PDF viewing application, reducing errors, eliminating spaghetti code, and properly encapsulating functionality.♦ Replaced clunky customized .NET 4.0 Dispatcher with version 4.5 async/await.

Allegiant Travel is the parent company of Allegiant Airlines. I served in a hands-on role using a mix of technologies.Project highlights:♦ Developed a C# Windows Service running on a cockpit-mounted Windows Tablet PC that kept pilot’s software up to date. Enhanced the service to interface with RESTful services instead of SOAP.Introduced a UDP-based blocking mechanism that conserved 3G bandwidth by allowing only one active tablet to download content from a server. ♦ Created a WinForms application to run functionality of a headless tablet software to test functionality of the client and REST service calls.♦ Partnered with flight data analytics team on a Java-based portlet system and REST services written using Grails that interfaced with a MySQL database.

TMW Systems develops enterprise management software for the surface transportation industry (logistics, freight, trucking, etc.). I joined TMW upon their acquisition of Maddocks Systems, where I had worked for over five years in Business Analyst and Implementation Specialist roles. Project highlights:♦ Developed a Warehouse Management System on n-tier architecture using the CSLA framework in C#. The system featured a database agnostic data access layer that enabled any RDBMS, a custom authentication and licensing system, and reusable GUI templates for diverse UI interfaces (WinForms, Windows Mobile and Embedded, ASP.NET/MVC2/WCF) to enable build of client applications. ♦ Created an application to design then generate code using templates for the C# CSLA business objects, database schema, and WCF contract and services.♦ Wrote Windows DLL and Services for rate and distance calculation using C#.♦ Used WSDL/SOAP API to retrieve and store safety ratings for transportation companies with a WinForms application to manage the Windows service and retrieved data.♦ Wrote algorithms to automatically rate invoices based on an infinitely scalable architecture of user defined measurement calculations.
