As a clinical research associate, I work to coordinate the different elements of the research team into a cohesive whole. This includes management of our research lab’s doctoral and master’s students, collaboration with researchers at our partner institutions at the University of South Carolina and Georgia State University, liaise with local schools, and communication with the University’s various departments, including the Institutional Review Board. My linguistics background has allowed me to take a prominent role in the project’s research and academic writing – including grant reports, academic publications, and journal articles – in a much more hands-on way than my predecessors had. I have created and modified many of the assessment items and administered tests to hundreds of children across the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area to identify developmental language disorder (DLD) and linguistic growth. I continually collaborate with the principal investigators to fine-tune questions for examinations, review data and statistics, and improve the overall quality and sensitivity of the tests to improve the lives of children struggling with DLD. During my time at the University at Buffalo, I have administered several one-on-one assessments – including the DELV-NR, DELV-ST, and WRMT aptitude and dialect tests – to conduct research on how dialectal variation can reveal significant issues in the diagnosis of DLD in children. Further, I serve as the main point of contact for schools who volunteer to participate in our research. This includes scheduling test dates, instructing the teachers, and remunerating teachers and schools for their time and effort. My responsibilities have also included oversight of the financial reporting, reconciliation, and budgeting.

I managed a large team of Teamster-unionized drivers and forklift operators at a large regional freight terminal to receive and organize freight from across the city of Buffalo, its metro area, and beyond. From there, I determined logistical requirements and arranged delivery across North America. I optimized freight movement for speed, safety, and efficiency by analyzing routing possibilities, the status of distribution center efficiency, opportunities for rapid response points, and more.I solved shipping and billing concerns, especially as it related to the movement of hazardous materials and time-sensitive freight after normal business hours. This included processing and managing customs documents and NAFTA paperwork, as well as communication with my Canadian counterparts to facilitate the movement of freight over the U.S.–Canadian border. Furthermore, I handled reporting and management of hazardous material clean-up in accordance with both company standards and federal/ state regulations. I regularly collaborated with routing technicians, linehaul coordinators, and other logistics specialists to assess routing concerns and improve sub-optimal lanes to direct the flow of freight more efficiently and to facilitate new strategies, as well as fortify working ones. We worked in tandem to direct and optimize the flow of equipment, freight, and personnel. Every week, I closed and secured the dock, office, and yard and set up the remote staff to direct drivers over weekends and holidays.I was chosen for accelerated promotion for consistently superior performance, from Supervisory Assistant (Jan ‘22 – Jun ‘22) to Operations Supervisor (Jul ‘22 – end of service). My outbound shift in Buffalo has boasted the highest raw load average (RLA) and highest density-adjusted raw load average (DARLA) in the Northeast countless times and served as the hallmark for outbound efficiency in the region and the benchmark by which all terminals in the Northeast strove.

Oswego, New York, United States

During my time with the Oswegonian, I wrote many articles for the newspaper, covering topics from the local to the international and from the theoretical to the policy-based and regularly engaged the readers to viewpoints that they may not generally be familiar with and certainly viewpoints that I had rarely come across in the newspaper itself. In general, I focused on topical domestic policy and long-term views of American foreign policy.

During my time at this internship, I led a team of designers and researchers tasked with creating educational tools for programming initiatives to inform voters on the issues and candidates for the 2020 election. In this endeavor, I coordinated with other team leaders to develop a larger, more cohesive, and interdisciplinary strategy in the challenging pandemic environment.Furthermore, I was chosen to write our grant reports and participated in nationwide events on voting initiatives on behalf of SUNY Oswego's political science department. By leading my team, I mobilized college students to vote in the election with assistance on how to register, apply for an absentee ballot, find their local polling station, and address other voting necessities. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked with continually challenging timelines with rapidly changing information to get students the information they needed when they needed it, including regulations outside of New York State for non-resident students.I executed an electronic contact plan to ensure voters were informed, updated, and had their concerns addressed. This included phone calls, text messages, and emails to ensure that students were well-connected to the necessary information.

As a Resident Assistant at Monroe Community College, I created an enjoyable and hospitable atmosphere in the residence halls, using past experiences as a student to facilitate a comfortable environment for new students and an easy arrival and stay for returning students.During my time, I liaised with campus security, local police, fire, and EMT with emergency response, including personally handling cases involving assault, rape, sexual harassment, drug overdoses, and suicide attempts. I also completed several training curricula for emergency response and administrative responsibilities, including fire safety, procedure for a variety of misconduct, and report writing, as well as naloxone (NARCAN) training to prepare for opioid overdoses.I used my cultural and linguistic knowledge to create programs celebrating diversity, including an award-winning program on Balkan cultures and languages, as well as promoting safety and developing a sense of community throughout the building I was assigned to.

Zagreb, Croatia

During my time at the US Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, I executed foreign policy work preparations with the intelligence, military, and security sections of the Embassy, performed research, and created products for the Ambassador, including collaborative efforts with the Defense Attaché Office (DAO) and Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC). This helped to ensure professional coordination with the Croatian military and government on NATO goals and strategies.I employed my Chinese cultural and language capabilities to create working relationships with Chinese embassy officials, including DAO officer equivalents, and interpret on behalf of US embassy officials. I used my language capabilities to interact with Croatian government officials and Bosnian, Serbian, Polish, and Russian embassy officials as well.I optimized the filing system for Embassy offices, including securing and disposing of sensitive personnel files for Human Resources and other sections. I operated with all sections of the embassy, including the DAO, ODC, Regional Security Office, Human Resources, Community Liaison Office, Global Affairs, and General Services Office (GSO).
