Hi! My name is Nathan Mast and I graduated from Purdue University in 2022 with a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (covers Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Drug Development). During my time at Purdue, I was a member of a pharmacology lab. We developed novel inorganic molecules to bind proteins produced in cervical cancers caused by HPV, with the goal of halting uncontrolled cell replication. I produced the proteins for our research and gained experience in suspension cell culture, protein purification, buffer preparation, RNA extraction and transfection, and some HPLC.I have been working as a Process Development lab technician at Genezen, a growing CDMO in the gene therapy space, since 2023. I work on the downstream team to perform small scale process optimization for clients, before transferring these optimized processes to our manufacturing team for production. I am learning to use our AKTA Ready and Avant systems, our KR2i TFF system, and other purification technologies, while learning about the various principles of downstream Process Development. Additionally, I have become experienced in writing SOPs, designing experimental processes, communicating with clients to best meet their expectations, and implementing excel spreadsheets to help organize the Process Development department.
