I am a macroeconomics enthusiast and Army intelligence analyst looking to begin a career focusing on Macroeconomic analysis and/or International Political Economy. My interest in economics comes from one driving impulse: I want to understand the things I see in the world. Macroeconomics in particular explains why countries face inflation, why some countries are wealthier than others, or why international trade agreements can be used to fight human rights abuses and prevent wars. My mind is constantly looking for answers to large picture questions, and the interdisciplinary nature of economics satisfies my need to not be confined to one intellectual box. During 2020, my National Guard unit was mobilized and stationed in Poland. My primary job was to follow Polish and European politics and monitor any possible changes in sentiment toward American forces stationed in Europe. This was after Russia’s annexation of Crimea, so special emphasis was placed on Russia’s attempt to influence Eastern European countries. This was my first exposure to international relations and geopolitics; I was hooked. Since then, I have developed a particular interest in the intersection of Macroeconomics, National Security, and Geopolitics. My army experience has given me a wealth of soft skills and technical ability applicable to the type of career I am pursuing. This job involves working long hours (often 13+ hours a day) as part of a team to analyze intelligence data from multiple sources and present a coherent analysis to present to officers who make decisions based on that analysis. Producing these analysis products involves extensive use of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Additionally, this job requires public speaking skills necessary to present an intelligence assessment to a group of Army officers. Teamwork is indispensable in a work environment like an Army command post. Intelligence analysts must constantly share information and working analyses to produce a coherent assessment. Personally, I am an amateur drummer, cat lover, and computer nerd. In fact, I plan to begin working on an A.A.S. in Cybersecurity in the Spring purely for my own personal interest in the subject. I have also begun learning Urdu from my wife, and I hope to add it to my skills section when I reach fluency.
