About Nathan Roach

I have been interested in the application of computer science and data analysis to understanding and solving various biological problems for the entirety of my academic career, and plan to continue expanding my skill set in these areas as I continue my career. In my time as a Ph.D. candidate in Biology at Johns Hopkins University I implemented novel bioinformatics pipelines (written in Python, Bash, and R) utilizing Oxford Nanopore Technologies direct RNA-sequencing (dRNAseq) data to characterize properties of the transcriptome of the well-studied model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. As a part of this and other analyses, I also gained experience working with Illumina-based RNA-seq and small-RNA-seq data. The results of these analyses have been published in Genome Research. In addition, I’ve worked closely with wet and dry lab collaborators to guide analysis and further experimentation.I am currently working for Fulcrum Genomics LLC as a Bioinformatics Scientist.
