I started out at KTVO as a summer intern. Over the two-month unpaid internship I had the unusual opportunity to go out in the field as a reporter. In the field I taped and interviewed by myself and then came back to the station and wrote the script and edited the tape. At the time, KTVO used a linear tape deck, so I had to learn to master that. After two months I was hired as a part-time (paid) reporter.
