I started on the Platform team, launching the public Watson APIs - they are currently handling billions of actions and growing fast. I worked on a range of projects covering the website, performance improvements (15x faster in one case), metrics & dashboards, Node.js training & mentoring, CORS support, IoT, and more. I then became a founding member of the Developer Experience team, and served as the acting manager for a short period. We focused improving the UX of Watson APIs and boosting developer effectiveness, both internal and external. My responsibilities included • Mentoring and training around JavaScript/Node.js (ES6+, React/Redux, Express, etc.), CSS, web performance, UI/UX, IoT. • MERN/MEAN web apps (MongoDB, React or AngularJS, Express, & Node.js - occasionally with Redis, Pgsql, or CouchDB in addition to or instead of Mongo) • Automating various processes for testing and deployments, making things faster and more reliable. • SDKs: I created the Speech JS SDK, took over responsibility for the Node.js SDK, and occasionally help with the Python, Java, C#, and Swift SDKs. • Demos apps: various example web apps with Node.js, React or Angular for services such as Visual Recognition, Personality Insights, Speech to Text, AlchemyAPI, and others. • IoT demos: a "Naughty or Nice Candy Machine" that gives sweet or sour candy depending on the tone of your speech, a Personality Insights name tag that analyzed my tweets, voice-controlled lighting, and more.I've hosted hackathons and presented on Watson-related topics at various events including Devoxx, Robo Universe, Tech Crunch Disrupt, and a few others, as well as internal training sessions.
