Nathaniel B. Edmonds is a Partner in the Investigations and White Collar Defense practice at Paul Hastings, and is also the Chair of the firm’s Washington, D.C. Litigation Department. He focuses his practice on internal corporate investigations and white collar criminal defense, with a specialty in international criminal matters and foreign bribery (FCPA) investigations. A former federal prosecutor, Mr. Edmonds defends companies and individuals before the U.S. government, including the Department of Justice (DOJ), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other enforcement agencies. Mr. Edmonds has particular expertise representing corporations and senior executives in significant cross-border matters involving multiple enforcement agencies and multiple countries.Before joining private practice, Mr. Edmonds served for a decade in the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division of DOJ, where he entered thorough the Attorney General Honors Program in 2003 after clerking for Judge Milton Shadur in the Northern District of Illinois. During his time at DOJ, Mr. Edmonds was involved in numerous high-profile prosecutions involving foreign bribery (FCPA) violations, corruption in the U.S. government, accounting fraud and other complex economic crimes. Mr. Edmonds has worked with prosecutors, law enforcement and regulators from six continents, including as a U.S. delegate to the OECD’s Working Group on Bribery and as a member of the U.S. China Joint Liaison Group’s Anti-Corruption Working Group. Mr. Edmonds also has been an Adjunct Professor at the Law Center of Georgetown University for over 10 years and has taught courses such as “White Collar Crimes in a Transnational Context and Federal Fraud Prosecution: Theory and Practice"Among his professional recognitions, Mr. Edmonds has been ranked by Chambers in FCPA National since 2018 and has been a member of Paul Hastings’ successful teams winning “Most Impressive Investigations Practice” – in 2021 and 2017 from Global Investigations Review and “Best Provider Collaboration” from American Lawyer in 2020. During his time as a white collar prosecutor, Mr. Edmonds received numerous awards including the 2011 Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the 2010 Attorney General’s Award for Fraud Prevention. Mr. Edmonds earned his J.D. in 2002 at University of Chicago Law School, cum laude and Order of the Coif, where he was Comments Editor of the University of Chicago Law Review. Mr. Edmonds earned his A.B. from Princeton University in 1995.
