On a mission to turn waste into waves. A few dozen moons ago I'd been cooped up in a basement lab at Imperial College London and needed to sit out in the water and just breathe for a few minutes. My home was a small, floating narrowboat and didn't have a lot of room to store surfboards. I was surrounded by 3D printers and after an inspirational rafting trip down the San Gabriel river found myself with funding from NASA and a project to build the world's first fully compostable 3D printed surfboard. Nine months later I was invited to present an algae based 3D printed surfboard at Nike's headquarters for a sustainability summit. It actually worked.  SurFFF is spelt with three Fs because it uses a type of 3D printing called Fused Filament Fabrication. The first few boards were made from an invasive algae that has polluted ponds and lakes in the Southern United States. Rather than importing material from the US to make boards in the UK and negate the environmental benefit I started to look around for more 'bin to board' materials and began exploring waste plastic as a source. Eight months on SurFFF has partnered up with Sustainable Surf, Surfers Against Sewage, The Eden Project and Surfdome to take a few weeks worth of beach and marine plastic and convert it into some of the most sustainable surfboards made.

Established in 2012 after a particularly adventurous trip to collect an antique motorcycle from a barn in Wales, the Gabriel Hounds is a collective of friends that have fallen in together through motorcycling and fallen out on plenty of occasions.We are artists and engineers, friends through many miles, motorways and roadside motels.

BSG/Cygnus Atratus was established to mass manufacture low cost alkaline fuel cells for both stationary and mobile applications. - Co-founder and Technical Director; on the Board of Directors - Responsible for technical program: electrode development; system architectural design; electronic system automation; system component manufacture - Successfully designed, built and tested of BSG's first 10Kw fuel cell. -Responsible for modelling, engineering, system integration and commercial application development. -Currently involved in designing and fabricating low cost test versions of BSG's Alkaline Fuel Cell implementing Solidworks, CATIA and CFDesign.

Renewables & Environment industry Current // Contract Artisan Vehicle Systems designs and engineers complete hybrid powertrains, elec- tric powertrains and suppourting systems for hybrid and electric vehicles. - Re-engineered motor mount parts for CODA Automotive's all electric vehicle. Parts were designed to be manufactured in stamped metal and needed to be manufac- tured from waterjet cut sheet metal and then bent. Designed a full replacement set of parts and produced a full set of drawings with GD&T to match.

Renewables & Environment industry December 2009 ­ September 2009 ( 9 months) Vision is a developer of zero emission hydrogen fuel cell/electric powered vehicles. - Lead fuel cell engineer, working with primarily PEM fuel cells to integrate fuel cells into CAN-bus architecture. - Developing LabView/MatLab Fuel Cell Monitoring and Performance Cataloguing System - Lead design engineer for all in-house parts, systems, and IP in general. Per- formed all FEA/CFD analysis of parts and systems.

Renewables & Environment industry August 2006 ­ August 2009 (3 years) Cenergie Plc was a company involved in new innovative technologies, including the design, development and testing of alkaline fuel cell (AFC) systems, and subse- quently the design, development and production of mass manufacturable, recycla- ble fuel cells. - Fabricated Alkaline Fuel Cell endplates on Huron knee milling machine. Prior to working for Cenergie PLC had no previous machining; in research and development of low cost alkaline fuel cell electrodes. - Worked to develop low cost microbial fuel cell based on Cenergie's existing fuel cell electrode and catalyst. Designed a system to use agricultural waste, specifi- cally effluent from a neighbouring duck farm to supply fuel cell with required fuel. - Was responsible for all fuel cell operations for demonstrations, presentations and events
