WRD 103: Composition & Rhetoric I introduces students to the forms, methods, expectations, and conventions of college-level academic writing. It also seeks to teach students that writing involves a fluid, three-way relationship between writing, reader, and subject. WRD 102: Basic Writing II prepares beginning writers for college-level work by examining the nature of composing processes and the roles played by writers functioning in a community of other readers and writers.

Courses Taught:English 701: Advanced Fiction Workshop is designed to highlight student experimentation with short story. Students write three our four complete works then submit them to large group for analysis. Weekly, supplemental readings are distributed and discussed; those readings concern advanced, writely concepts. English 526: Introduction to Fiction introduces students to the short story. Students write scenes, character sketches, personally influenced narratives, dialogues, as well as expository prose: all of which contribute to story telling. English 401: Introduction to College Writing. Students examine texts, emulate author’s styles, and compose related capstone works—a personal, an analytic, and a persuasive essay. I designed the course to include readings, both current and canonical, videos, music and artwork, all of which students analyze, isolating what tools each author uses to make meaning.
