About Nathan Gonzalez

Hi, my name is Nathan! I am a PhD student studying Physics at the University of California, Davis working under Dr. Marina Radulaski. Our group studies novel solid-state quantum emitters in nanophotonic devices. I am particularly interested in using these technologies to develop quantum networks and quantum simulations. Before starting my graduate studies, I worked with Dr. Hartmut Haeffner and Dr. Erhan Saglamyurek at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory on the QUANT-NET project, a quantum application network testbed for novel entanglement technology. In my role, I demonstrated frequency stabilization of lasers via ultra-low expansion cavities and a commercially available precision wavelength meter, used for single-photon generation from an ion-cavity system. I also contributed to trapping ions in a novel 3D-printed ion trap.As an undergraduate, I worked in the Quantum Networking and Transduction lab at NIST Boulder under Dr. Tasshi Dennis. At NIST, I contributed to designing an optical homodyne detection scheme to reconstruct the quantum state of a two-mode squeezed light source.

Research Affiliate

Berkeley, California, United States

Under the mentorship of Dr. Erhan Saglamyurek and Dr. Hartmut Häffner and with a large team of researchers, I worked to build a Bay Area Quantum Application Network Testbed for Novel Entanglement Technology (QUANT-NET). Specifically aiming to build a trapped-ion node of this three-node hybrid quantum network:- Laser frequency stabilization of diode lasers via Pound-Drever Hall locking technique with high finesse and ultra-low expansion cavities.- Used a commercial precision wavelength meter for laser frequency stabilization.- Participated in designing and implementing a homemade low-finesse optical reference cavity for PDH locking.- Designed and implemented compact double-pass acousto-optic modulator optical layout, for rack-mounted breadboard system.- Interacted with a large team of scientists working together to develop a full-stack, trapped ion quantum application network testbed.- Funded through the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program in the Office of Workforce Development and Education of the Department of Energy.
