CurrentGrowing Beyond EarthⓇ is a NASA and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden partnership to research food crops for growth on long-duration space missions and to inspire the next generation of explorers.𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒄 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic work plan (goals, objectives, milestones, workflows), aligning with NASA/FTBG's mission𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, business leaders, & educators𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕: • Develop integrated, novel solutions to business, manufacturing, fulfillment, scheduling, & supply-chain processes• Delegate, oversee, and optimize work of team• Ensure grant compliance, reporting, and adherence to regulations & laws𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒖𝒃𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒆:• Plant experimentation (varieties, growth media, LED recipes, watering techniques, stressors, nutrient delivery) in ISS-analogue "Veggie" growth chambers• Write research protocols used by NASA researchers, teachers, and students• Co-developed and implemented Data Portal for standardization and open-access sharing of space crops data• Summarize data and recommend candidate Crop Readiness Level-2 cultivars to NASA Space Crops team• Develop photographic catalogue of 200+ Growing Beyond Earth cultivars for 𝘚𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘴 𝘞𝘪𝘬𝘪𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏:• Develop botany and space agriculture activities aligned to NGSS & Common Core for teachers & students in grades 6-12 in 500+ schools worldwide• Train teachers on research protocols; supervise grad student thesis; teach high school students; mentor interns; evaluate student experiments𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑:• Stay current on trends, missions, and R&D in global space, astrobotany, controlled environment agriculture, and education communities, identifying opportunities for growth, improvement, and partnerships• Represent GBE/NASA at conferences, workshops, outreach events
