At the Caribbean Maritime University, my primary focus is on navigation, but my time at the Dry Dock expanded my learning in invaluable ways. Thanks to the Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Robert Kozicki, I was given the chance to explore various mechanical and engineering tasks. This hands-on experience included: Generator maintenance Crane operations Powerboat operation (refresher) Oxy-acetylene cutting Welding Bow thruster maintenance alongside specialists from Brunvoll ThrustersAdditionally, I was fortunate to collaborate with fellow cadets from CMU, which fostered valuable knowledge exchange as we tackled tasks together and shared insights on a daily basis.On several occasions, I had the opportunity to visit the engine rooms and bridges of vessels undergoing repairs, after building rapport with the crews. Being in the presence of the machinery and instruments I had studied in theory further solidified my understanding and fueled my ambition to eventually achieve the rank of Captain.
